Team is going to need to have more success this season than last to save his job. (obviously)
I do like what Jim has built from the prospect pool. I also think he has set enough in place below him, that it would continue without him.
I would like Jim to finish off what he started and bring this team it's first cup but if he isn't able to accomplish it soon. He will be replaced.
Tough business being a GM. Winning a draft lottery would have been nice, - manvanfan

I don't think it should come down to that.
I think if we move up 5 spots then it is a successful year. Playoffs would be nice but my benchmark is improving 5 spots.
We are getting better and we are getting closer to good teams. - VANTEL

the guy has a boner for every single swedish hockey player. Said that Dahlen was going to be in SJ's top 6 and win a cup with them immediately after the trade. And exactly, the tournament is irrelevent. |

right. SHL from the season before. Worried whether he plays vs lesser players.
Disappointed if he's not on Swedish junior team |

I know I am not a Benning lover . I do think he has learnt the job and is now getting a lot better at it. There definitely was warts but this is not the only team that has ever had these problems.
Every year there is 10 teams in the bottom 10 of the league . It was our turn and this year I think we will be out of that club.
I think bringing in another GM at this point is ridiculous. - VANTEL
His trades and UFA signings alone should be enough reason to fire him. A new GM with a solid plan & direction would be best. Bumbling Benning can go scouting. |

I'd probably be a bit disappointed in just 5 spots. I guess it would depend on the rest of the league though.
You are right, they were holding their own vs good teams last season. It was being beaten by VGK, ARI last year that hurt quite a bit. They need to beat the teams in their own division the most. |

For sure - but TBH I really like our core - EP, Horvat, Boeser, Miller, Ferland, Myers, Hughes, Demko - possibly Juolevi and I think Jake will become more important (never live up to #6OV)
Some other prospects have potential as well - Podkolzin, Madden, Woo, Rathbone, Lind, Hoglander, DiPietro
When people get pissed over things like "Why not Tkachuk instead of Juolevi?" bcus then would we have Petey?? or imagine if we took Glass instead of Petey - what ifs works both ways. |

I like Van's core too. I also like a lot of the draft picks and most of them are ones I wanted. Even in later rounds that never worked out.
Glass isn't a lottery pick though. Neither was Tkachuk over Juolevi. Podkolzin whether I like him or not, is not going to helping out Vancouver this year like Jack or Kakko would if they would have won a lotto spot. |

You d!ckhead, I changed for 2 reasons, the first was Jan's blog was a sh!tshow and he requested assistance.
The second is that Gorton apparently is a god and has completely rebuilt the Rangers into Stanley Cup winners in one year of a rebuild and who wouldn't want to be a part of that... |

Nevermind that they are in Kap Krunch and forced to sell off Buchnevich or Krieder or both....but don't tell the Benning haters....ruins the narrative for the Special K Gang.... |

So it’s just a coincidence that after one team has success that’s the particular thing the Canucks need to improve upon, and they make several changes in that one specific thing, ignoring all the other important aspects where they are also lacking?
Your narratives are wearing thin. - 1970vintage
Its all in your head that the Canucks didnt need to get bigger until the Blues won the cup.
It's all in your head that the Canucks only addressed one thing this summer. They needed to address scoring in the top 6...they did. They needed to address right side D... they did. They needed to address the D core's health... they did. Yes they got bigger but it's not the narrow minded narrative you are pushing.
You pushed the narrative theory. Don't see how you can spin this to my set of narratives. I'm just denying yours. |

Teams that made jumps in the standings from previous season MTL. NYI, CAR, CGY.
Two of them made a trade with each other a big trade. MTL made a good trade to acquire a better player. NYI lost their star player but got a much better GM.
So far this year, NJ has done well in getting Subban and Hughes. Chicago has tried to exchange their entire roster except for the core players they have had for 10 years now. NYR have made a few big splashes with Panarin, Trouba, Kakko. They just had to get rid of as much to get those players and have to get rid of more to keep them.
Van upgraded two top 6 forwards. Added better defensive players. Multiple goal tenders.
We will see who goes up and down in the standings this season. Let's hope it's Van. |
