Mathews has not played a full season in the NHL. He needs to show that he can actually put up 120-130 points and win the art Ross to deserve this coin. Not just a projection off 70 points on what he may have gotten had he played a full season. - B-Wforever
Huh?
Sorry man but that’s not how you value players. In the last 3 years...at 19,20,21 he has smashed everyone in the league at 5v5.
Not even at projections. With 30 less games played and hundreds of less mins he’s smashed the likes of McDavid, Ovi, Kane, Crosby.
He’s 5th in goals in all situations. He’s 1st in goals per 60 in all situations.
He’s tops in the league. It’s a fact and you can’t just say “he needs to play 10 more games each season to prove it.”
That’s not how you judge value. Put the three seasons together...
He needs more PP time. His PPP/per 60 percentage is literally the exact same as McDavid.
You don’t judge value by winning a pointless season award. You judge it by overall production where he has excelled.
And at 21 if you want 5 years you have to pay him at 22,23,24,25,26,27. Where he will get better and his production will improve. You have to pay for his trajectory...the only way around it is signing a bridge deal. |

Jesus Christ. Only two players have put up 120 points in 12-13 seasons. Both this year. Your rationale is stupid and wrong.
Matthews is the best goal scorer in the league. |

Why check stats to back up your arguments? Just make them up as you go and hope no one notices. That’s the real HB way. |

That's a pretty bad PP division.
First unit - 4F 1D
Sexind unit - 3F, 2D....
You really trust muzzin to hold the line on his own? And any of those forwards to double back if needed? |

Pasta had a 70pt season followed by an 80pt season so no I'm not following... - RickJames77
Pasta drafted same year as Nylander and has outperformed him to date both in regular season and playoffs. He also has a physical element which Nylander hasn't yet showed. This is not to say that Nylander can't improve significantly, but at this point the Pastrnak looks to be a better deal - based on performance and results. |

He didn't get that much time with Matthews....
But thats besides the point...He isn't getting the right PP usage. Even last year his even strength numbers were decent.
He played on the 2nd PP getting minimal time with Ennis and Lievo...
The PP is where players get inflated stats depending on how they are being used. - Santo_44
I wasn’t talking last year, more when he got 60. Anyways, they were handed prime mins while Kadri and co. handled the top lines.
Let’s hope he has a good year, put him on Matthews wing and I’m sure he’ll get some assists. |
