Pastrnak: 123 points in 172 games = 0.715 PPG
Draisaitl: 137 points in 191 games = 0.717 PPG
Nylander: 135 points in 185 games = 0.729 PPG

oh

- Steven_Seagull

Pastrnak is younger than Nylander and the first 97 games of those 123 for Pasta were before Nylander even had a cup of tea in the NHL...

Is he the last 40 goal scorer on the leafs before Matthews did it as a rookie? Or did Blake score 40 with isles and got paid by the leafs?
- bryant

Official answer:

Sundin with 41 in 2001-02
Sundin with 41 in 1996-97

Andreychuk with 53 in 1993-94
Clark with 46 in 1993-94

Most ever?

Yes he did. Pasta and Drais both hit 70, Nylander did not. But Nylander hit 60 twice neither did that. He had a better PPG than them.

2 61 point seasons by age 21 is very, very good. And he didn't even get very good usage by Babcock.

I find it hilarious people think he's millions overpayed.

- RogerRoeper

Didn’t get good usage?

Lol, he got prime time with Mr Prime Time

He’s good but let’s not invent stuff.

He didn't get that much time with Matthews....

But thats besides the point...He isn't getting the right PP usage. Even last year his even strength numbers were decent.

He played on the 2nd PP getting minimal time with Ennis and Lievo...

The PP is where players get inflated stats depending on how they are being used.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm not arguing about either contract and its value, what I'm saying is that Nylander did not have Draisaitl or Pasta numbers prior to signing.
- RickJames77

Huh? It's about what they are worth at the time they signed.

Huh? You can't just say a random number and say it is true....Give me the facts. Why is Matthews worth no more than 10 and why is Nylander only worth more than 5?

And give me facts because I will gladly show you why they are worth their pay...Possibly even worth more.

- Santo_44

Johnssen 20 goal, Kappinen 20 goals, Nylander 20 goals.
I gave Nylander an extra 1.5 mil for his extra assists and puts him in line with more proven guys like Jordan Eberle, Zibanajed, Hoffman, Drouin, Palat.

Mathews salary makes him the second highest paid center in the entire league. He is not the second best center in the league. 10 mil would tie him for 5th highest which is probably still too high but equates him to Eichel so...

No, that's not what you said. You said that Nylander had Pasta and Drai numbers before he signed. You never mentioned anything about it having to do with when the other two signed, but if that's what you meant then it makes more sense.

This is such a horrible post. You are only talking about "Goals" when comparing Nylander to Kappanen and Johnsson, but Nylander had 2 61 point season verses 1 40 point season for both Kap and Johnsson.

Meanwhile Matthews is getting paid well because he's the top 5 on 5 goal scorer in the entire NHL since he entered the league.

And sorry, remind me why guys like Drouin are more "Proven"?

You don’t look at stats at all, do you? The amount of 5v5 production Matthews provides is exceptional to elite. He’s literally the best for goals over the last three years I think.

I disagree and wasn't the only one that it wasn't clear to.

"I don't think people understand how good Nylander's stats were going into that negotiation. He had Pastrnak, Draisaitl numbers."

How is that clear that you're comparing contracts when the only comparison being made was stats?

The funny thing is, I go on and on about Matthews mediocre TOI by Babcock. Can anyone argue that with me?

Matthews is a beast. It's insane he's not used more by Babcock.

Ok, I think it's pretty clear but anyways. I read all the negotiation, he was compared to those 2 in the media all the time.
