Can I have your crystal ball?
I prefer to use statistics to figure these things out but you seem to have a way to look into the future. - Santo_44
It's called experience. It's called a lifetime of watching hockey. He has all the skill in the world, but not the drive to push through the hard aspects of the game. The pressure to do well will get to him early, and then the crowds will get on him and make it worse. This doesn't go well. He's a Gardiner in pressure situations.
I've set myself a reminder to send you an "I told you so" note at Christmas, and then again on April 5th. |

doing something a long time doesnt mean you are good at it.
Steve Simmons has been employed for decades
but, really..lots of us here have plenty of "experience" like you do.

What? a 22 year old with 2 60 point seasons under his belt.. The Leafs would have to sweeten the pot? - bobbyisno1
Take your leaf goggles off and look at the game/business of hockey. The leafs have no doubt already tried to move him and couldn't. It is a risk not trading him now. If he plays like he did last year then you would get nothing for him. If he plays well then yes you get value. It's a gamble, and those clowns asking about my crystal ball, and I prefers stats, well saying he will do well also requires a crystal ball. His stats lats year were garbage and definitely not worth his cap hit. So yes, I prefer to look at his stats too. Until he delivers in the now, he's a gamble. A Sens fan should really know that lesson..Alexander Daigle.. |

The “I Know hockey” card. Generally people who use that card don’t do any research. Facts man....use facts because no one is believing you are some hockey guru. Every hockey fan has watched as much hockey as you. You are no different than anyone else on this site.
But sure set the reminder. |

There is no crystal ball needed man.
Do you think all these GMs have crystal balls when acquiring players via trade/FA? Drafting?
They don’t. They use factual evidence to project their careers.
You however choose to spew bull poop and tell everyone they are wrong because you “know hockey” |

Let's play the game. Marner $10m. Leaves $18m.
2 forwards are $1.5m. Leaves 16.5m.
Dermott $3m. Leaves $13.5m
Liljegren & Sandin $1.75m. Leaves $11.75m.
Resign Harpur? $1m. Leaves $10.75m.
. . . there's wiggle room, but the real questions are what term would Barrie or Muzzin want. Because I don't think the Leafs would give Barrie 8 years or Muzzin more than 3. - Monkeypunk
Even then though, it isn't a SC contending defence. Reilly, Dermott, 2 Rookies, and Muzzin/Barrie doesn't get you to the finals. |

Martin St. Louis and Adam Oates usually top the list (as an aside, I had a buddy growing up whose sister dated Oates - my buddy used to wear Oates' RPI jacket).
Of the top of my head, you also have Cujo and Belfour, Rafalski,Mike Ridley (not a great career, but he came out of Canadian university hockey - which at the time was crap) John Madden, Joe Mullen.
I'm sure there are others I'm not remembering. - Atomic Wedgie I forgot about St. Louis! I didn't even know about Oates, Rafalski, Cujo, or Madden and don't know the other guys, but that's probably an age thing.
Improved scouting has to be at the root of why we see less and less of these guys slip through the cracks. Bozak and Krug are the only good ones to have come out lately, while all of the other ones are hyped up and don't do much. Most of the ones I feel like I can name were drafted, they just played 4 years and UFAed it on August 14th.
