Man, I wnated the Leafs to get that guy.
Wheeler that is.
Wasn't he there during the Kaberle trade?

- bobbyisno1

I’m not sure how the timeline worked out. He made two separate deals very close to the deadline IIRC. One of which included Wheeler. So if he made the Peverely trade before the Kaberle one, then no he wouldn’t have been there.

It's pretty amazing he will go down in history as trading.

Phil Kessel
Blake Wheeler
Taylor Hall
Jordan Eberle
Tyler Seguin

Hes still young and had a down year. But when you have Marner Matthew's and Tavares around him I can see why you might view him as a B-lister. Hes an A level talent, but not elite or star player yet, if ever.
- systemtool

I think Nylander had too much pressure when he came back. He was trying to live up to the deal and the expectations of fans and teammates.

I think the guy comes into camp and the season and shows why he got the deal he got.

All the haters were wrong about the leaf cap situation and how it would result in trading this guy or that guy. So I think they'll be wrong about Nylander as well.

- kaptaan

Let's not kid ourselves about the cap situation. We are in cap hell. We had to deal a first round pick to get out of the Marleau contract, we lost Kadri, we lost Connor Brown, we have to let Gardiner walk (polarizing opinions on the player EVERYWHERE, but he is a former 50 point dman, and those don't exactly grow on trees), and the losses are going to be felt even more next season when we lose most of our blue line to free agency. Nylander may still be traded yet.

It’s pretty wild that an interim GM was allowed to make some of the decisions he did and how they are still positively affecting the franchise more than a decade later.
- RickJames77

Then not even given the job full time!

Crazy eh?

It would be the biggest mistake made if the Bruins didn't bounce back the way they have with Marchand, Mcavoy, Pasta, Krug all being drafted.

They were reported on the same day. They're back-to-back, but the Wheeler trade was announced first.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

We haven't even seen the new look of the team take to the ice yet and it's still doom and gloom. Kadri wasn't "just lost". He was traded for a very good RHD.

Believe it or not, but he was an undradted college FA out of Michigan State. One of the best undrafted college FA to sign IMO. Maybe the best, but it’s hard to find a list and I’m sure there were other good ones, but none that I remember coming close to the talent he has.

My question is, would anyone here as a GM or fan, make that trade and give yourself a cup?

Yeah, about the only thing that keeps me from jumping off a cliff with that one was that Peverely was important for our cup run. If that’s what it costs you kind of just accept it. Still a poopty trade when you just look at it on the surface though.

Bozak is the only other successful one I know of. I don't think he's as good as Krug talent wise but the man now has a cup.

Boston has a really tight grasp of NCAA hockey. They get a lot of use out of it. Probably because that was Sweeney's bread and butter.

We don't but we do know they won with Kelly, Peverley and Campbell as their 3rd line.

If I had to make that trade guaranteeing the cup win OR risk keeping Wheeler and being unsure if they win I'd make the trade.

Wheeler was just a kid/prospect at the time.

Then again, I think they beat St louis with Wheeler in the line up.
Maybe Chicago too.

Outside of his point totals, I remember him being a big piece of the team. But you’re right, you can’t say for certain we still don’t win. But, poop, I’m sure going to use it that way to help myself sleep st night knowing we let another star go under the Chiarelli tenure

Wasnt much choice they had to get rid of Marleau.
i hate the cost but at Least we know it wont be a 2020 top 10 they give up

Kadri out, Kerfoot in ...slight loss but maybe not as much as we think
Gardiner = Barrie

Connor Brown needs to be replaced by a Moore or another 700k player. not much to worry about there

also, if Mitch takes a sweet deal, maybe they can sign Gards

Fake news

Campbell was part of the Merlot line with Thornton and Paille. What a 4th line that was

But Kelly and Pevs made up the 3rd line and we all know how important a 3rd line can be in the playoffs.

*cough* Kadri *cough*
