I didn't even see that - what a franking weird way to structure a contract.
Kinda makes sense in that it gives him a lot of power in his final year - but wow, it really looks like the Sharks are going for it now, and plan to trade him to the Leafs for the final year of his contract! - Atomic Wedgie
Yeah, they definitely wanted to keep his AAV down and reward him on the tail end of that contract. I'm betting that his camp sees this as a 5 year contract, with the 5th being the year he takes the qualifying offer. It makes it a much more rich contract and actually makes a lot of sense for both sides considering where they're at. |

my only *, is that he gets to play pretty much fulltime with the best C in the League (imo) and the rat guy that it basically a top 5 winger - senstroll
He's played with Krejci and DeBrusk and has done just fine. He's not a passenger at all. It definitely doesn't hurt though!
To be fair, didn't Willie have a season with Matthews? |

75 would be on the higher end for sure.
I can see, him hitting 65-70 points this year.
So at 23 years old, to have that productivity, his contract begins very,VERY good. - Sandro
I think your parameters are pretty good. I see the 75, but who knows?
I thought that last year, once he found his game, he was skating and moving the puck well, but he couldn't hit the net or score for the life of him.
If you extrapolate his performance last year, considering for expected goals, it probably should have been closer to 11g / 21a @ 5v5 play, with probably another 10 points on the Power Play. . Or about a 42 point season in 54 games, where at least a dozen of those games he was beyond sub-par.
That could have paced him ahead of his previous totals to 65 points. If you give him a full training camp, a chip on his shoulder, and not Connor Brown and Patrick Marleau, I think he'll impress most people.

kapanen's career points < nylander's career high season - Tumbleweed
Let Kappanen play a full season in the top 6 and see if he doesn't match or surpass Nylander's season high.

I'm pretty sure Nylander will earn his pay cheque.
Kessels first 4 years - 50.82 points per 82 games
Nylanders first 4 years - 55.58 points per 82 games
Similar type players...both play(ed) with superstars...
Both do not like the dirty areas...
Seems to be a pretty good comparison - budsfan5
you failed to mention that you can't win a cup with Kessel, so therefor you cant win one with Nylander |

It's a team game. Sometimes it takes years and some luck to get there. Should the Leafs have kept Bozak cause he won with St.Louis and tossed aside Matthew's and Tavares? Let's not be silly. Should the Caps have given up on Ovie cause he didn't win them a cup in his first few seasons? - systemtool
Yeah exacty. It's a team game. The leafs won;t win if they only have four players taking the entire cap. Ovechikin makes 9.5. Oshie 5.7 , Kuznetzov 7.8 It lets you build a team around them. Leafs let Bozak go presumably to keep Kadri. Now Kadri is gone too. St Louis' highest paid player is making 7.5. So comparatively I guess Nylander would be their best player? |

Do you know when Ovi, Bakcstrom, Oshie, ect signed their contracts? Do you understand how the cap works? It goes up.

No ones contract in the league at the moment even comes close.

I'm interested to see the PP look this year without Kadri.
Matthews-Tavares-Marner
Rielly-Barrie
Kapanen-Kerfoot-Johnsson
Muzzin?Dermott?Ceci?Spezza?-Nylander - AdamFrench
It's Babcock you're talking about and he loves using 4 forwards...
Matthews-Tavares-Spezza(taking Kadri's spot)
Rielly-Marner
and
Kapanen-Kerfoot-Johnsson
Nylander-Barrie
I wouldn't be surprised... I dont necessarily agree but that's how I see it right now
edit: wait. don't we have a new PP coach? Hmmmm!... might be a good thing. |

It almost went down this year. They can only add so many out door games to boost profits. The cap has peaked and will not rise the way it has in the past.

I wouldnt really normally care who he played with, but in this case Bergeron/Marchand are huge GAR players..i am not suggesting Pasta is a slouch in any way.

You cant compare contracts signed in previous years with today. You honestly think Ovie, if he was 22 years old today, and a RFA, wouldn't be seeking as much Matthew's?
St.Louis got lucky and hot at the right time, to go from literally dead last to a championship isnt exactly a model organization. Kudos to them. |

Mcdavid and Matthews both took less than they deserved...It is pretty sweet.
I can't wait for one of these Top level RFAs to say (frank) it I want my money I don't care about the team. |

While playing a Cap expert on HB i noticed CF does the work for you and puts the cap % in the contract details

SIGNING DATE: January 10, 2008 - 16.82%
but ya, Matthews is 14.63% |

Left out ...."and signed for 2 LESS years".
Very important. |
