I'm past the point of caring about Brendan Perlini but, has it ever been leaked at what the hold up is with him signing? I (we) assume it must be either salary/term or both probably.

IMO Perlini should look at the group of forwards that StanBo has accumulated and realize the Hawks are not waiting on him. While not a wealth of talent I bet there are several players on the roster that can replace Perlini more than adequately.

Hopefully Stan can find a taker for good ole' #11 to recoup that 2021 3rd we gave up for Shaw.

There is already a log-jam at forward without Perlini, once he signs the situation will be exacerbated and it would be even worse in the off-chance that Dach makes the team.

For all the problems a logjam of talent causes it's a coach's dream to have it. You thought it would be funny and great to see Krys emerge as the best defenseman of all the prospects, I'd love to see Perlini figure it out, put in the physical and mental effort and earn a spot on the team.

stanbow has really moved the needle to a much better team defensively. seabs will be relieved of his babysitiing duties of the last 2 years and have areal nhl player partner...yes i expect him to have better year...

this team should be at least a 1GA/game better...that puts them around 3...they will score...so i speculate this worth at least a 15-16 pt turn around which places them in the low 90's

its a very difficult division but they should be in the playoff hunt...

hopefully there are some big positive surprises...ya never know who that guy is who really moves it a notch or two...

If the Hawks stay healthy, they make the playoffs. At that point, anything can happen....

The Hawks were close last year with a garbage fire defense, few defensive forwards, and mediocre goaltending.

They are going to have some defensemen who block shots and some forwards who will back check. I am hoping there will be better coverage in the slot as that was always open for easy goals and hope the man to man D is executed better. That scheme still baffles me though.

Anisimov <>= Smith+Perlini?

Smith is another PK guy bowman's brought in. Carp, Smith, Maata, Dehaan all block shots and have experience killing penalties. Hawks were terrible last year and Bowman has obviously tried to address it. Carp and Shmit can take draws too. I can see thinking behind it.

Perlini is a free asset from Strome deal so bowman is not giving him away. Everyone calling to dump him is not good asset management. He's got speed, showed chemistry with Strome and cat. At worst try and get a pick or prospect for him when timing is right (he's playing well and someone steps up that can take his spot)

Anisimov is a big center, not very fast but new how to use his skills. Played pk, $h!tty on FO, and a few good stints on PP.

In the end we lost on overall skill, but received a competitive player that addressed a weakness and retained an asset with potential. 2 players for one.

And he won't have to play Keith (just turned 36), 22+ minutes every night.

It is interesting to look back and what lineup we opened with last year too.

DeBrincat - Toews - Kahun
Saad - Schmaltz - Kane
Kunitz - AA - Kampf
Martinsen - Johnson - Kruger

Keith - Joki
Manning - Seabrook
Gus - Rutta

Ward
Forsberg

Injured - CC, Murphy, Forsberg
Scratched - Hayden, Davidson

- breadbag

I have a blog coming up looking back at this very thing.

The only accurate thing was the Hawks wanted to move his 4.5 mil cap hit

OTT wanted to dump Smith to anyone for anything and was able to save a few mil in actual dollars

Krys has been somewhat of the forgotten defensive prospect behind Boqvist, Mitchell and Beaudin. It would be funny (and great) if Krys somehow emerged as the best D prospect of the bunch.

maybe tyler can restate his comment about this earlier...that waive was late in camp when rosters were set...there was something else going on there and many of the players including duchene were very unhappy when that happened...
- bogiedoc

Why he was waived is irrelevant. He was waived. Nobody wanted him with that contract. Unless he gets better at 31 why would they be able to trade him without a sweetener? Who is paying $3M+ for a 4th line wing?

Looks to me that Stan is building this team as a playoff team. Those types of players are what win you series. Smith, Shaw, Carpenter along with Kampf, Caggiula and Saad are going to annoy the heck out of other top lines.

And I'm wondering how much of getting Shaw was looking at also the plus of reinvigorating Saad.

“Stan Bowman finally made the move we were all waiting for. Well, kinda.”

Not all of us

“He still played on the PK and a little on the PP, but his style is not conducive to that 3rd line role.”

Only if you’re talking about the traditional shut down third lines of yesteryear. These days most teams strive for 3 scoring lines. Plus, as the only veteran center, beside Toews, with any kind of offensive pedigree Stan had better damn well hope that Toews and Strome can not only stay healthy for 82 games each, but also repeat or exceed their offensive output of last season. Strength down the middle wins championships. The team just got weaker in that aspect.

Agreed, jeez the guy is only 23 and came from the sinking ship called the Yotes. In Rockford he would be our #1 wing prospect based on physical skills. Yes $1.5M is more than a Rockford salary but that is where he is now salary wise. He has proven more than every player you can talk about replacing him with. WTF has Kubalik done in the NHL and he's the same age?
- rpeters01

It's what he hasn't done - he hasn't shown himself to be an inconsistent, uncoachable slug who looks purdy while skating.

He is the key to everything,

I remember when many were complaining about whos going to be our second line center.

I think AA is a better player, so long as Johnny doesn't have to be on the PK except for maybe 3rd shift, this trade really doesn't bother me, no draft picks or sweetner going the other way.

Looks to me like he’s building an old team that is gonna play short handed a lot. Hope the PK really improves a lot.

Most likely for the same reasons he was moveable earlier this week.

Yep, it would take a sweetener (added asset with him, retained salary or taking a bad contract in return).

Doug Wilson for Kerry Toporowski was pretty bad.
- Brownie's_Purse

Esposito and Hodge scored about 100 goals a year for Boston annually. It was a terrible trade just counting either Esposito or Hodge.

Experienced newcomers, not old, I think.

Smith is the only acquisition over 28 - and they swapped a 31 year for him.

Nonsense is last week we were begging Stan to trade AA with sweeteners, he gets it done without a sweetener and we're still complaining. Reminds me of my grandmother.
