So you want to have to give up 1sts just to keep players?
- nyrangers9479

Nobody wants to give up 1sts to keep guys and nobody wants to have bad contracts on their books but it's the cost of doing business. I couldn't name one team in the league that is both at least close to a playoff team and has no bad contracts. Everyone has them.

The Marleau situation is a bad example because they signed him for free and he was a great role model on that team, especially for their two most important players, Matthews and Marner. They also gave him that contract before they got Tavares, meaning if they didn't sign JT they wouldn't have had to give up a first. Giving up a late first round pick to get to keep Marner and get 2 years of Marleau + JT is such a no brainer. Would they have preferred to not give up a 1st? Of course, but that doesn't mean that the right moves weren't made along the way

Are you trying to be the new Tom?
- Tonybere

No, but poor asset management put us in this position. You’d be ok with giving up a 1st in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory just to create cap space? If we didn’t give Nam 4 million and Shattenkirk 6.6 we’d have over 10 million right now. Instead we’re likely going to lose a good young player for pennies on the dollar bc we can’t figure out what to do with two 10 million dollar plugs.

Apologies as I had miswritten the paragraph on offer sheets, Where it originally said Buchnevich, that should have said Lemieux. Thanks to those who pointed out the mistake, so I could correct it. As pointed out to me, which I have added and was aware of, since Buch and Trouba have arb hearings, they cannot receive an offer sheet.

Really genius....we need to reduce salary...we have to overpay to get rnh....so we give up roughly 11l in salary take back 6....save 5 million...this would allow us to sign rest of our restricted free agents.

Think its just a bit too slanted in Rangers favor for Oilers to consider...

With the idea being EDM resigning Kreider long term, they don’t have the cap space

I don’t want to keep Shattenkirk, why would anyone want to keep Shattenkirk? So what your saying is, it’s ok to sign bad players to bad contracts bc we didn’t think eventually we would need to sign good players to good contracts?
- nyrangers9479

Dude relax lol I’m just saying rather then buy him out. It’s a bad buyout I don’t like it. If they can somehow, BY SOME MIRACLE, trade him then great but I just don’t see it happening

I’d rather keep him instead of using up the cap space next year, it’s very little savings

Big Smoke screen mentioning Buchny now with all the Russians coming to team with Panarin the tip of the spear ,IF there is a trade with edm. its simple they have needs

power speed fwd.(krieds)
goalie unproven (georgiev)
C for future ( Lias A )
D for future ( Lindgren

what do we need ....R N H 4 for 1

Not alot of salary issues ,just a trade to fill needs of both clubs
,this is not to solve the cap compliance coming from R FA signings

Shatty ,Smith ,Names , go with draft pick sweetners & salary eating

I hate Shattenkirk, with that being said, if we needed a 3rd pair RHD that could possibly have a rebound offensively at 3.3 million (50% retained) I think you could tempt me. Basically what I’m saying is at 3.3 million he’s useful to someone. A team like MINN maybe? Ton of cap space and as their 3rd pair RHD I think could be a good fit.

I don't think they would take that, and we'd have to clear more cap to fit him.

Realistic trade looks like this:

Buch, Chytil, Names, 2020 1st, Nils.

Point (guessing we sign him for 9-10 million)

It feels like I still might not be giving enough from our side.

I actually saw his posts on twitter last night. He's also probably lucky that construction crew didn't mob jump him. One of these days, he's going to run into the wrong person/group and is gonna get beat pretty bad.

Funny cause I agree with him about the fat people, could care less about bike lanes though.

Ever notice the fat people will drive around a grocery store parking lot for 15 minutes looking for a spot right in the front then walk that treacherous 50 yards to the store

The cap really is a love hate. If helped with parity across the league, but ruined dynasties and rivalries for teams bc teams cannot stay together. You can't hate players like you used too. I miss that. They need to make some changes with the cap.

Even assuming that Gorton could use the Jedi Mind trick to get Tampa to accept that trade package ----- where are we getting the $10 mill needed to sign him??

Ex-Ranger Ryan Spooner signed to play hockey in Switzerland for the coming season.
Wow, his game really fell off a cliff after that 20 game stretch with us...
