Anyone care to rank the Metro? I think it’s super hard to gauge mostly because of goaltending and the impact of the young top picks
I’ll take: Caps/Pens at the top and then PHI, NJD, CAR, NYR, NYI, CBJ
I think these teams are all well coached but I think some will struggle to score while at the same time struggle to keep goals out of the net (like us last fall) - WSCTeton17
I dont know if I'd call philly 3rd. I dont believe they improved much at all. Rangers and Florida are the tough ones the gauge... Carolina got better, and I'd have then as a solid 2nd or 3rd in the Metro. Islanders I see flopping due to not being able to repeat that goaltending.

Losing Lehner was not a good choice. They’ll slip a bit in the standings. |

How so? Trotz system made it so goalies faced the lowest scoring chances in the league. Greiss and Varlamov will be fine. |

I just think Lehner is ahead of Varlamov right now. The Russian was a backup in Colorado. |

The top three could easily change spots IMO. Devils and Flyers are very close too, but For some reason I'm not set on Niskanen and Braun pulling down heavy minutes.
Rangers have Artemi, that is the difference for the last three.
The Islanders lost their best player from last season and didn't add anything important. I thought the wildly overachieved so this season they should suck. |

Dead ass serious. I’m assuming at least 10 games missed for both Letang and Malkin and terrible usage and deployment from Sully. The margin for error has gotten too small for the expected mistakes/injuries. |

You aren't even remotely close to saying this first. There have been writers predicting this after losing Kessel and adding Tanev |

He’s a good back up. Did well in Pittsburgh too. I think the Islanders will have two capable backups. 55/45 % sharing the net |

Don't think I need to explain the top 3. I've been among the more positive on the Pens.
I don't think Philly's moves help that much, but I do think a full year of Hart does.
I love the Rangers rebuild. There will be some growing pain though and they have to subtract to clear cap space.
I think Jackets play with a chip on their shoulders and stay in contention, still a good bit of talent.
I can't believe I'm ranking NJ 7th after adding Hughes and Subban, but I still see a lot of holes and they need to resolve what to do with Hall. But I can see them placing higher.
NYI- I don't even think are that bad, but all this guys aren't playing for contracts anymore and teams that over-achieve with defensive play that don't make any moves to improve tend to regress. |

Yeah because the pens haven’t dealt with injuries to Letang and Malkin before and the forward group is as deep as it’s been in years. Stick to the books kid. |

Galchenyuk Tanev Kahun Mccaan Blueger>Kessel. Kessel is better than anyone of those players individually but hockey is a team sport. |

No joke, I read from the fancy stat guys online that this was just a narrative and that the quality of shots faced was actually middle of the pack |

From Mike Kelly:
Lehner going from the most goalie-friendly defensive system in the nhl to one of the most chaotic. Islanders alllowed 2nd fewest scoring chances off-the-rush this past season, Hawks allowed 5th most. Reads off entries are going to be more numerous & difficult in Chicago. |

At 5v5 they were 23rd in scoring chances against and 18th in high danger chances against. They had the best save % in the league. |

And the year before he had an .892
As I said I think some teams in the metro are really going to struggle with goaltending and I think Carolina HAS to be included there. Mrazek has never started 55+ games and Reimer is questionable. I like CAR up front but swapping De Haan for Forsling was brutal |
