If you base it on shot and scoring chance differentials, you're probably right. - jmatchett383
I base it on seasons with winning the Hart and Selke |

I just find it funny how Plus/Minus for Goals is considered a garbage stat because you cant always control when the puck goes in the net, but we are basing all of our "advanced" stats on Plus/Minus for shot attempts. - Murphy_Dump
Goal differential is okay. Plus/Minus is terrible. |

If we're talking about 5v5 and discredit ENG, what is the difference? |

That was a bad one because they decided they'd rather sign LeClair. He wasn't terrible, but considering what Morozov did in the KHL and had shown already they probably wish they kept him. - Tojo.
LeClair still had a hell of a shot, but his body was so beaten up by then. Way too many crosschecks from years as a net front screen. If you could get him the puck, he was still money, but getting up and down the ice was a struggle for him. |

If you mean changing the parameters of plus minus to equal goal differential they are obviously the same... |

That’s not why people call it a garbage stat. They call it a garbage stat because there are times in the game that arbitrarily get a plus or a minus. (PP, PK, ENG).
Corsi is absolutely not plus/minus for shot attempts because it only factors in the game situation being filtered on the website and does not arbitrarily add shots based on situations.
Big difference. |

I’d be curious to see what their head to head stats were in games vs each other. |

The Stars D and Belfoar in net was pretty solid. Not many rosters could touch that defense. Plus Derian Hatcher was awesome. - sammy87
Zubov, Sydor, Hatcher, Matvichuk, Ludwig...I remember those guys on D. Jon Sim was a guy I remember too. He was from the same town I lived in Canada. New Glasgow. |

What would it matter? Fedorov would never have the puck and Mario could just beat the poop out of him if he wanted too. |

It absolutely does not - burgh4life87
When an even-strength goal or shorthanded goal is scored, the plus–minus statistic is increased by one ("plus") for those players on the ice for the team scoring the goal; the plus–minus statistic is decreased by one ("minus") for those players on the ice for the team allowing the goal. Power play or penalty shot goals are excluded. An empty net does not matter for the calculation of plus–minus. |

So you understand that it doesn't only track even strength goals right?
EDIT* Where did you get this? An empty net goal against absolutely counts towards your plus minus. |

You get a minus if a shorthanded goal is scored against the PP
You get a plus if your team scores a shorty
You get a minus if the team scores an empty net goal in your net.
Those are all arbitrary tallies which make it a garbage stat.
Goal differentials and shot differentials stay consistent based on situations. (5v5, PK, PP, ENG, etc.)
I’m not sure how you’re not grasping this. |
