Question: Without looking it up, how many members of the 90/91 Penguins are in the HHOF, and who are they?
- jmatchett383

Mario
Trottier
Mullen
Murphy
Coffey
Barrasso
Recchi
Francis

And soon to be Jagr? I think? Did I get them all? Maybe Barrasso isn’t in. I can’t remember.

Ducks post. The Ducks have averaged 44 wins a season with GMBM which excludes the lockout shortened season which was a 51 win pace. That’s not a bad track record at all for a team that doesn’t have crazy deep pockets

Perry had .94PPG over his prior 3 seasons before his extension and he was 28 at the time and had 43 goals the following season. He was seen as elite at the time.

Henrique had 50 points when he signed his extension. The third time in his career he hit the mark with 3 others at 40+. He’s still only 28 and has plenty of tread on the tires. Anyone who is looking at last years injury plagued Ducks and stapling that one year as a basis for their entire careers is stupid. Same goes for any other team that is injury stricken the entire year

Kesler had an amazing playoff run with 13 points in 16 games shutting down the opposition. He followed that up with 53 and 58 point seasons before injuries hit. His most common linemates at that time? Cogliano, Silfverberg, Hagelin... he was carrying his line. He sees the highest QoC of anyone on that team

Fowler is tough to gauge.. he’s carried Bieksa and Beauchemin for long stretches. I wouldn’t call his cap hit terrible. It’s not Seabrook level or JJ. He contributes

It was a conditional 2nd for Eaves who paced 56 points and was a natural fit before getting sick/hurt. Is that not worth a second??

He got a 1st and a 2nd for Freddy’s rights keeping his star goalie Gibson. He bought low on Hagelin and Perron. Palmieri hasn’t hit 20 goals and had only hit the 40 point pace twice in Anaheim. He was playing with Beleskey, Kesler, Getzlaf, and Perry. He had a poor showing the in playoffs with 4 points in 16 games so instead of ponying up they sent his rights for a 2nd and a 3rd. Is that bad? The reason they gave up Theodore was because Vegas wanted their other D. The rumor I recall is that they wanted Manson

He’s had good and not so great moves. Not a lot that’s stellar and the only firable offense imo is bringing back Carlyle

Barrasso isn't in, and really, he shouldn't be. He was a very good goalie, but not HHOF worthy (IMO). But well done.

Yeah I wasn’t sure. I don’t think he should be in either but he seems like the kind of goalie who would make it in haha

Well, honestly, Grant Fuhr was never all that great either. His numbers, even for the early 80s, were never elite. Granted, his team wasn't known for their (underrated) defense, either. But when the time came to make the big save, he stepped up, same with Barrasso. I personally don't think either deserve to be in there, but any key piece of the mid 80s Oilers are shoo-ins.

Poor Glenn Anderson.

ZAR is not included, we trade him for a pick and Petts signs for a reasonable number and that line-up could fit under the cap. Trotman is on a 2-way and will likely go down - not sure why CapFriendly.com has him included in the cap hit. But that only leaves $1.5M for Petts contract - not sure if that's gonna happen.
- pier6687

All the reports are they want to lock down Petts for term, they think his numbers in the next two years would make his following contract too much. It's a good thought, but we are just out of range with Trottman going down.

Someone posted the #fancies about a week ago to show that JMFJ was better than Rikola last season. Not sure of the samples sizes.

Well, I’d rather the Pens spend less than $1M on mediocrity than $3.25, not to mention there’s the possibility progression.

I hope we dont trade ZAR. I want to see him get an opportunity while not dealing with injuries / workout limitations.

I'm excited for Kahun as well. I think the addition of Kahun (not Tanev) is what made Rust expendable.

I still have this feeling that Horny could be the one to go. Horny is a competitor. Maybe more so than any person or viking on earth. I wouldn't be shocked if he is unhappy with 3rd line minutes and 2nd PP duties. I could see him having an honest conversation with Sully/GMJR and consider waiving his NTC.

A lot of assumption in this post.

Horny was on the 4th line for a chunk of the 2017 run when he wasn't injured. I obviously don't know him personally but he doesn't strike me as the type who will b!tch about his usage/deployment. Just seems to have a good attitude no matter what. Comes to play every game no matter what. For those reasons I don't think JR will ever trade him.

For the record I'd be fine with him being traded.

Even if that fits, you're screwed as soon as a forward has a 2 week injury. Sure, you could trade ZAR, but you better at least put 700k back for a 13th forward (and really should leave space for a 14th). So in the end, trading ZAR only saves a few 100k. They need more space than that.

Plus Larry Murphy on defense along with a still-productive Coffey. Ulf was good when he wasn't trying to end people's careers. Barrasso was good enough in goal. Seven, soon to be 8, HHOF players is tough to beat.
- jmatchett383

It was a stacked team. Probably the greatest what if in Pens history is if we didn't do the trade with the Flyers. They thought they needed the grit of Tocchet and Kjell Samuelson, Wregget helped and they won another Cup. But we gave up Recchi and Coffey to do it.

I’m very meh on ZAR. I’m fine at a salary similar to Blueger, but if he’s going to cost $1m+ they should just move him for a late round pick.

I like Blueger. 28 games and more FM than Bryan Rust and Simon combined. Don’t kid yourselves princesses. Garrett Wilson will be on the fourth line.

Then Tocchet became Robitaille who became Nedved, who became Kovalev who kinda became Mikael Samuelsson eventually kinda became part of the Fleury trade

What was it that didn't work with Robitaille? I remember as a kid being stoked when we traded for him and I thought he would clean up playing with Lemieux or Francis

Just played here the one strike shortened season then gone, and Lemieux sat out that season....Still had a 40+ goal pace

What was the official reason for his trade?

I'm not old enough to remember it clearly. They did get younger in that trade, plus the defensemen swap of Ulf for Zubov so they got good value.

I do remember it was around this time they started cutting salary because the owner was running out of money and they were heading towards bankruptcy, so that could easily have been a factor.

I'm surprised no one's chimed in that a one-way contract means he can't play in the AHL. Maybe people have finally figured it out?
- jmatchett383

The kid shouldnt be playing in the AHL. If there are too many forwards you just have to scratch your head some more at the Tanev signing.

The guy who does nothing but shill for management says something critical of an (admittedly prior regime) management decision?
