Federov was better than Yzerman for sure lol
edit: on second thought looking at their stats, nope. I was wrong. - j.boyd919
But according to Feds Yzerman > Fedorov > Lemieux.
I wonder where Crosby, Jagr, Malkin and Francis are rated for him. I bet he says Datsyuk and Zetterberg are better than all of them. |

Now that our core is aging I think we can refer to the word rebuild as the ‘R word’
How bout that steal of a Guentzel contract - WSCTeton17
The good contracts don't count, Only the bad ones
Only talk about the bad ones, incessantly, in every post you make, and pretend the Pens are the ONLY team in the league with a bad contract
That's the rules to go by here

Their depth is weak, center depth is even weaker. Their defense isn't even that great. - burgh4life87
The thing I like about the Rangers is they have a loaded system a well. And by like I mean they make me nervous. Point taken about no proven 2C though. |

I don’t get the hype around the Canes. They’re likely going to be worse in net and on D and are they really that much better up front over last season?
TT-Aho-El Nino
Williams-Staal-Svechnikov
Haula-Necas-Dzingel
McGinn-Wallmark-Foegele
I’m not saying they’re going to be bad but I have reservations about how good the team will be overall - WSCTeton17
Full seasons from Staal and Nino. Svechnikov and maybe even Aho can continue to improve. They still have their top 4 on D an have the prospects to replace DeHaan. I like Dzingel with them, they've struggled to find scorers to finish off possession.
I agree on not being sold on Mrazek, but I think the team is here to stay. |

You read the Athletic article I posted about a few pages back. It pretty much said what you are, that even with some bad contracts, the good ones outweighed them. Dom, one of their resident analytics experts, ranked them seventh in overall value on their non ELC or goalie contracts, and that's before Pettersson signs. |

I think the Rangers will have an improved season from last year by having more offensive weapons in Panarin and Kakko, but still finish either last or next to last in the division.
Poor center depth unless Howden or Chytil take a big step, or if they somehow make a trade before then. Also, while Trouba improves their defense, having Smith and Staal is not ideal. While Shatty may help offensively, he's pretty terrible defensively. |

Ideally, Geno has a more dominant year, Murray picks up where he left off and the Pens don't have a revolving injury door; if that happens I fully believe they could finish first. I don't however think the playoffs are a lock.
Realistically? I think the Pens will be in a three-way-fight for 4th in Metro with NJ and Philly. NJ could be super dominant depending on how much of an impact Hughes has and adding Subban.
Not to mention Florida and Buffalo should be better making it less likely only three teams make it out of the Atlantic again.

We'll likely just disagree on Shattenkirk an Schultz. I like Shattenkirk a lot better than Schultz defensively myself. Same with Smith, although I suspect he'll be gone. Both have good relative numbers, Shattenkirk's are very good, but they get dragged down by a tanking team.
Fox is a nice add to the defense. They're also expecting Kravtsov to make the team already.
I do agree at 2C they are vulnerable right now and will probably have some growing pains this year. But I see a team really on the rise in the near future. That's mostly what I mean by scary: not yet, but what's coming. |

Yeah....the injury bug is my biggest fear. Letang, Malkin and Murray can't go down for extended periods. If the forwards commit to helping out on D like they did in the cup runs they'll finish in the top 3 in the Metro. |

I don't have a subscription to The Athletic, but the way I look at it, If we assume JJ is totally worthless, thats 2.2 million (because we can bury him and get back 1.05)
Say, Horn is 500k overpaid, Tanev 500k, Guddy 500k, Rust 250k?
Thats 4 million in overpays over 5 players, on an 80 million dollar cap
Chump Change - easily one of the best situations in the league, just look around
We easily without even breaking it down have at least 8 million in underpays right now, not counting ELC's

Cant tell if serious or joking.
He won the Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smyth all in one year....as a D-man....obviously won the Norris that year too haha.
Sure, the game was a lot more open and the goalies were a 1/4 the size but some of the players were massively skilled and he was one of them. Gretzky started in the 70's and the game wasn't that much different in the 80's especially the first half of the decade.

You can say that about any sport though. Except baseball. Its always been boring AF and really only good for hanging out having a beer on a nice summer night.
Only time it was enjoyable was when everyone was juiced. |
