You take JJ + Aston-Reese off the roster to Detroit for a 4rd Pick + C Prospect and there you go: cap compliant.

Why is Detroit giving up more value than Pittsburgh?

I'm surprised no one's chimed in that a one-way contract means he can't play in the AHL. Maybe people have finally figured it out?

That’s wrong though.

Pens would be in decent shape cap wise if they could just trade away Tanev

lol I'm pretty sure 100% of the people here think Blueger is NHL material. He's a good 4th liner with good hockey IQ.

Btw BLUEGER > Aston-Reese IMO.

Would Aston-Reese be worth a 4th RP? Perhaps. JJ would be going for the C Prospect to anchor Detroit's 3rd D pairing.

ZAR worth a 4th sure. But what is Detroit being compensated with for taking JJ?

You mean JJ + ZAR + 4rd Pic + C prospect for the worst player on Detroit's prospect pool? MAYBE Detroit goes for it.
- jmatchett383

I’d chalk that up as a steal by us.

Is Hornqvist on the third line and 2nd PP worth the $$$? Just don’t see it. Any chance he could be the one to go?

That’s the point. Any time someone gets a one way contract some jagaloon inevitably chimes in with “dOeS tHiS mEaN hE cAnT bE sEnT dOwN?”

And a two way means he doesn’t have to go on waivers lol.

Send him to Anaheim to play with a bunch of Swedes and take Rowney and a 2nd/3rd back.

I have been wondering about this as well. Maybe a Hornqvist for Perlini swap with Chicago. Since he is being shopped and we already swapped once this offseason

Not a bad plan if he’d wave.

I’ve got no problem with Chucky on PP1. He’s got some unreal skills. I would rather see him play LW at ES because he’ll be more effective/confident catching breakout passes on his forehand and will be able to advance the puck better from there. Moving up the ice these guys are going to weave and create new lanes for one another which will open him up for one timers. For offensive zone draws I would fully anticipate him to be right behind Geno on the left and on the wall on the right side. Kahun lives around the net/slot anyways

It's all about production. 5.3 mill is worth 50 points. A healthy Hornqvist can still come close to that all while being a fantastic possession player.

Right...but a lot of people on this site/blog think equate one and two way contracts with waiver eligibility.

Funny seeing Garett Wilson mentioned here. He's another guy that actually has really, really good advanced metrics. Plus he hits people and brings energy to a 4th line. But he just can't score.

With the subtraction of Phil, I think it's important we have guys that are capable of scoring.

So allegedly someone for the Athletic is saying the Penguins want a longer term deal with Petterson... and could be in the 3-4 mil a year range.

If he is a 2nd pairing Dman, that's great... if not, its another overpaid bottom pairing. But could this signal even more that JJ may be moved?

Ok but why would Anaheim want to bring him in and block one of their other young budding stars on the wing? Rakell, Silfy, Kase, Terry, Sprong, Steel, Comtois. Anaheim is super higher on Steel, Terry, and Comtois than they were on Kase and we know how that’s turned out

I’d like to get him for $3MM or less for 4 years if we could. Alternatively if we give him $2.25MM for a year and if he does log 20-21 TOI playing with Schultz and if his production grows then is he worth closer to 5? I think it’s worth the risk

A few outlets have reported this. GMJR has made comments about giving Pettersson term because of how highly they think of him. There is no question JJ is the preferred trade piece, but that is a difficult contract to move.
