Probably good value in betting Flyers to win Metro - ClaudeFather
I mean it looks like the Penguins are finally starting to regress. If everything broke right they could be competing to win the Division. They are +750 to win the Metro on the site I use. Washington, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Islanders ahead of them. Devils & Rags slightly behind. |

I was looking at the early odds to win the Eastern Conference, Flyers are like # 11. Which means after the coaching change, addition of Hayes, adding 2 veteran dmen, full season of Hart etc... still not projected to make the playoffs. - PLindbergh31
Who is #1 -10?
I still don't think Columbus, Rangers, or The Devils are better than the Flyers on paper.
The Penguins are in trouble, Detroit doesn't worry me.
The Islanders goaltending gives me pause.
Washington, Boston, Carolina, Florida, Tampa, and The Leafs are the teams that we will be chasing.

If he falters or goes through a bad stretch I still don't see it as being nearly as bad as using 8 goalies in a season. - MBFlyerfan
no it isnt as majority of those 8 goalies are not nhl caliber. To me the margin for error is very slim, if there even is a margin.
The inconsistencies that have plagued this team for several coaches will still be there until proven otherwise. |

honestly not that concerned about his injuries though when dealing with the flyers medical staff all bets are off - daryl stanley
Well when he does get injured one of two things will happen.
1. Hart gets ran into the ground
2. A non NHL caliber goaltender is going to lose a fair amount of games |

that is the rub lyon is the 3rd goalie
well the question is should they have invested more in a better more consistent backup? yes it would have cost 4m or close to it though in the end would that safety net been worth it?
The flip side is I wonder which goalies would have been even interested knowing Hart is the main guy here. My guess is not many. |

That's reasonable. As I said I wonder about NYI and Pitts. |

I think you can eliminate Detroit, Buffalo and Ottawa right off the top. I think TB, Bos, Wash, Tor are playoff locks.
So that leaves 4 playoff spots available with Pittsburgh, Flyers, Devils, Carolina, Florida, NYI, Rags, Mont, C-bus all in the mix.
So 4 spots among 9 teams. They are firmly a bubble team. |

Curtis Mcelhinny has been healthier and better than Elliott the last two seasons. He came in with a 1.3 million dollar cap hit. Even though he is older than Elliott, he would have been a better option. |

Yes, I agree.
Last year was a perfect storm of suckiness. So many things went wrong from the goalies (which I think started a domino effect) to the regression of IP and SG, to the coaching debacle etc etc.
I think stability alone from a goalie and coaching standpoint will help tremendously.

Two years is too long for a 36 year old backup goalie. |

Let them forfeit the season based on this projection and just start prepping for 20/21 season. Maybe projection will be more favorable then. |

I expect a good 10-15 point increase from the Flyers this season just based on the following:
1. Proven , winner coach in AV which inevitably always leads to an uptick
2. Full season of Hart
3. Expected bounceback from one or both of Ghost and Provorov
It's the other things we wonder about that determine if they are a bubble team or locked in to a spot. |

If they continue to receive just league-average goaltending, they'll make it in, just based on how they play the game, and how tight-knit that team is off the ice. |
