From what I read and listen too, it seems the flyers are not considered a legit playoff team. They mention Philly but mention the holes and questions, maybe due to underachieving last couple years? The rangers and the rest of group seem to be more favored. Is that just me as a philly fan? Being on the inside what do you think?
Are we just the Dangerfield of the NHL? |

I see it as a lot of it is hype. Rangers added the shiny new toys in Panarin and Trouba. Both good players for sure but when I look at their roster, I don't see it on paper as better than the Flyers. The Metro is a complete crap shoot and a very tough division.

I think the Flyers can actually do some damage this season if they consistent lines working together, the back end is steady with Braun/Nisky and Hart plays consistent. They could also be horrible and give up and insane amount of SHG and have an inept powerplay. Lots of hockey people power ranking the Flyers outside of the playoffs in the 23-26 range which is crazy to me. |

Tk, Hagg and a 3rd for Point
Not enough cap but hey - wcorvette
More like TK, one of Frost/Farabee, and a 1st for Point. MAYBE.
And then find the $8M+ in cap space to sign him. |

At a minimum. I don't believe he is in play. If you wanted him, you'd have to drastically overpay.

i dont think he will be moved and yeah he would cost a lot.
They have 5.5 of space, they need to sign point and erne, then next season they have Vasilevskiy, Sergachev and Cirelli.
I think Kucherov took a team friendly deal at 9.5, Point coming off a 92 point season, is he asking for more than 9.5? Or the same? |

At the end of the day, there are still too many ifs overall, and too many ways that the season could get away from them. |

And a ton of ways it could break right.
Any team aside from the mid-80s Oilers has had to have a huge amount of breaks and breakout years from players to win the Cup. Heck, some would argue that St. Louis had no business beating Dallas, let alone Boston. So yes, there's a ton of question marks and ifs, and I don't think they're a legit SC contender, but I don't think it's out of the question...they'd just need to get some damn good answers to those question marks. |

If Hart plays well, and plays in a lot of games, they'll make the PO's -- regardless of everything else. |

No 10+ game pointless/losing streaks. No 7-8 goalie carousels - having Hart/Elliot tandem steady throughout the season is an immediate upgrade. No weird inexplicable special teams issues. Let Patrick and his 3rd unit play pressure-free, let Hayes settle into the 2nd unit, steadying it - alongside a bounce-back season from Voracek, Gostisbehere, and Provorov and it all points to good things. |

No doubt, the goaltending sunk them last year. Coupled with Provorov and Ghost forgetting how to play in all 3 zones, the team was crippled and never recovered. |

If Hart falters then what? Elliot cant carry the load. If hart regresses in any way may be a very long year again. |

When Elliott gets hurt, not if.... when because that is what he does get injured. Then what? |

I was looking at the early odds to win the Eastern Conference, Flyers are like # 11. Which means after the coaching change, addition of Hayes, adding 2 veteran dmen, full season of Hart etc... still not projected to make the playoffs. |

All of this is reasonable and well within the realm of possibility.
But the goalie thing is the most important. I doubt any team could recover from what the Flyers went through last season with the goalies. |

If he falters or goes through a bad stretch I still don't see it as being nearly as bad as using 8 goalies in a season. |
