Bill, how do you have such a deep understanding of the nuance of the game? Like Sunday’s article about footwork in the corners. Do you play? Have you played?

I watched the Flyers for 20 years before I started playing and it gave me an entirely different view of the game and respect for what they’re doing out there (Giroux especially).

R.I.P. Gene and Razor. Gone, but never forgotten. And kudos to the Flyers and their alumni for supporting the powerplay team and our wounded warriors!

It means someone wanted to make some numbers fit their narrative, so they develop an arbitrary equation that does so.

Yes. I like Charlie’s articles plus you can follow other NHL teams as well. I like the Athletic primarily for baseball coverage which is outstanding both locally and nationally.

They're all bad. Kruk is ok but Ben Davis and even Schimtty irk me. Bottalico in studio needs throat punched.

It's tough, because none of them will ever live up to Ashburn and Kalas.

The Philadelphia Flyers locked up another RFA Tuesday, re-signing Nicolas Aube-Kubel to a one-year, two-way contract worth $700K.

This is about as good as you can do with NAK. The Flyers locked him in for just a year on a two way.

I'm a little surprised he went for a two-way.

am I reading that right, 7M to spend on Buchnevich, De Angelo, and Trouba, with Lemieux probably not getting a contract?
- Doc_Sarcasm

Lemieux will get a contract, they aint going to let him for nothing.

What leverage does he have to demand a one way deal?

Yeah. It had to be either sign this or we are just going to let you walk. NAK is seeing the market must have figured he will take the sure thing. He is a fringe player.

True, it's not like he's a highly-sought-after player. So I guess I'm not really surprised, just figured maybe the organization would offer him one since he spent some time with the big club.

Whatever, has no effect on the cap and waivers, so not big deal.

It has an effect. A positive one. He is a minimum player and if he finds himself on the roster it is what they need. 700K against the cap is helpful for sure.

He may or may not make the final roster but he is not waiver exempt but if he clears he will be helpful in LV and be a depth call up in the least.

Good contract for the Flyers.

The maker is turning with all the cap strapped teams.

Whether it's a one-way or a two-way doesn't matter, the cap hit will only be 1/180th of $700K for the every day he's with the Flyers.

Also has no bearing on waiver eligibility.

All a one-way contract means is that he gets paid the same salary whether he's in the AHL or NHL. That's it.

Hey, I have no problem with people analyzing data and using the raw data to do differentials and percentages. When people start coming up with arbitrary formulas to manipulate those numbers, I can't get down with it.

I just did the free trial and agree. Especially with the fancy stats. I guess Im going to have to dive in so I can understand what some of that +G% over Pie actually means.

It looks kinda overwhelming initially, but it's all based on simple/intuitive concepts.

Emery was with the team in 2009-10, 2013-14 and 2014-15

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

and to cross themes here, the Athletic story on his career and what happened the night/morning he died was really good.

Schmidt makes me want to cry. He started technically talking hitting Sunday afternoon and I had to turn to watch something else. It's just not the place to be physically demonstrating things and taking the camera away from the game. Talk about the FREAKING GAME IN FRONT OF YOU OR SHUT UP and let the game talk for itself.

He literally had no chance of making much more money, please stop saying this is a good contract for the team, NAK had zero leverage, this same contract is given out to almost all 14/15th forwards.

They saved a $61,250 on his NHL salary by bumping up his AHL salary from the $70K it would have been on the QO.
