the Leafs won the cup in 1967, so thats not a burn.
Maybe saying 1968 makes more sense. |

Why? His age? He was the best of the Marlies d last year, even better than Rosen. And yes, better than liljegren. - mykokes
No, Rosen, when healthy, was the best in the entire AHL. Had he played more he would have won the Eddie Shore Award.
And Liljegren was on the top pairing playing the best players on the other teams (only time Sandin did that was when he played some shifts with Liljegren). The Marlies were doing with Liljegren what the Leafs did with Rielly a couple years back. I'm not saying that Liljegren will turn into Rielly or anything, just that the situations were the same.
Sandin will almost assuredly always get more points than Liljegen. But Liljegren was a better player last season than Sandin and he in all likelihood will make the NHL first (had he not gotten hurt multiple times last season he would have played in the NHL already).
I fully believe that Sandin will turn out to be a better player than Liljegren, but he isn't yet. |

Still kills me every time I see it. I was watching that game with my dad and brother and we couldn't believe that he did that.
He started to celebrate and then it finally dawned on him what he'd done. - GreatGigInTheSky
It was a brilliant pass - goalscorer reflexes set in.
I like Laine - guy should be living in a bit more welcoming place and he'd do fine.

I am.
But that unfortunately doesn't guarantee that Liljegren will succeed at the NHL level. But I do think that he'll be a good player. If he can stay healthy. |

That's true. Plus he wasn't accustomed to actually being in his own end, that he lost where he was on the ice. |

Once Marner is signed, there will be $40m on the CAP committed to 4 forwards (Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander).
I think Dubas has it under control for this season but also knows it is highly problematic to have a salary structure that is so top heavy on the CAP. And, more provoking, so thin and vulnerable after the top six.
My guess is the Leafs are fine until Christmas. But the league gets a lot tougher after Christmas and especially in the playoffs where depth and winning become synonymous.
Dubas knows he is going to have to deal one of the big four salaries sometime in the next 12 months. It is probably wise for him to go slow and pick his spot. - spatso
This is such a lazy argument. Do you have any idea how many teams have almost as much locked-up on more-yet much, much worse players? Vancouver i s supposed to be rebuilding, but now have less $ than the Leafs do on the cap and have to pay their young players.
Overpaying for bottom 6 talent is not the answer at all. Leafs have a set of established young stars who will get better. Dubas paying 700K for Spezzza is so much better than the crap 3-5 million per deals for bottom 6 guys teams paid.
Your "Guess" about things getting tougher in December is due to the Leafs fall at that time, right? Their save$ dropped horribly at that time. Why assume that will repeat? Will Andersen get injured at the exact same time?
And please stop with the "One of the big 4 will be moved". I heard all year Nylander would 100% be traded and Marner would get offersheets. They aren't going anywhere. |

would the Habs be willing to give up the 4 1st round picks and 10.5M$ contract to get him?

I wouldn't if I were them.
But if they can get Laine to an offer-sheet that's a high number that Winterpeg will still match, then they can turn around and try to offer-sheet Conner, who's a better player. Winterpeg would have a hard time matching both. |

A 10.5M$ contract would cost the Habs two 1sts, one 2nd and a third. Anything more than that is crazy.
At this point they might be willing to do it but I'm sure they'd rather find another trade route (if not Laine than another player) so the contract doesn't have to be that high.
I'd be super excited if it did happen though. |
