I think a Loui / lucic swap would be fairly even
- Redmile247

I'm ok with it if EDM throws in the sweetener. Both players need a change of scenery and Lucic-Ferland out there literally no one would fu*ck with us.

Basically we are in a situation where both Tanev and Baer need to be moved due to injury status. Get what you can and move on.
- LordHumungous

They are still helpful players when healthy. This year Van looks like they have better depth to cover when the two of them are injured. It would come down to the cap space issue. Clearing off a few million would give them a bit of wiggle room but at the same time test the depth of Utica when injuries do occur as usual. Hasn't worked out well in the past

It's just time to shake it up a bit more and clear some spaces. Trading Tanev clears a bit of cap space. Trading Baertschi for Foligno allows Leivo or someone not suited for a 4th line role to move up and Foligno fill that spot.

.@mike_p_johnson: But it's not only Marner. I think Matthew Tkachuk, it's probably unlikely he gets into camp on time. Brayden Point, Brock Boeser, Laine, Connor. All these guys are not in a rush..bc they believe the team needs them as much, or more, than they need the team

Miller 115 hits
Ferland 177 hits
Foligno 205 hits
Myers 97
Benn 124 hits

Would have been 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th on the Canucks last season in hits. Van got more physical this off season that's for sure

And Sutter, gets you some breathing room.

We can survive without Brock. Let him sit if his agent isn’t being reasonable. We no longer have one top 6 winger

I'm not as big on trading Sutter as some because I don't know if Gaudette is ready for full time duty and that really kills the centre depth if Gravaoc is the next best option if someone gets injuried.

Much deeper this year, thank you Mr. Benning. (I think he’s only a few years older than me?)

I am finding it more annoying that these kids come into the league and thinking they deserve to be paid immediately. Most haven't won a thing and think they are the poop.

Just look at Nylander last season. 6.9 for the future isn't that bad of a contract but really he scored 27 points in 54 games.

Take a reasonable shorter term deal and get paid when you have proven that you are actually worth it not just one or two seasons.

I like Sutter but it's more about freeing up $$$

Hopefully Gaudette comes into camp and pushes Sutter out the door. Gaudette has a lot more offensive ability imo.

Agreed, take a 2 year, $12MM contract and prove yourself

Trading Tanev and not taking back any salary would already free up 4.45. That's quite a bit.

You could trade Sutter instead of Tanev but the D probably has better depth than the centres on the team right now.

26 year old Tyler Graovac has 9 points in 62 games if any of the centers get hurt.

Although I agree with you, your statement is a bit misleading, he scored 135 points in 185 games 0.73 PPG, before he signed. Most guys who miss almost half the season holding out don’t do well when they come back.

Dubas was dumb to cave on that deal. Hopefully Benning stays the course and Boeser bets on himself with a two year deal.

According to @TheAthleticTO Joe Smith, VAN did offer Schenn a one year deal worth more than what TBL gave him but said Schenn couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play in Tampa and possibly win a Cup.

“Latest Ericksson rumblings. DAL still seems to be the potential landing spot. Hanzal + Comeau or Hanzal + Cogliano. Hanzal would be bought out and the other player would be waived - if not traded.”

Both of these are good options IMO
