So much effort is being put into trying to justify Benning hate lately.
It's taken him longer than most expected, him Included I imagine, but he's finally assembled a competitive team.

Look at the NYR, albeit they're contracts probably weren't as ugly as ours as an exceptional rebuild so far. Benning is running out of time and has to make his move now. It's going to be interesting who finishes higher in the standings.

Don’t play so dumb, Jordie Benn just turned down Montreal’s identical offer because he wanted to play in Vancouver. Stecher was a sought after college free agent who could’ve signed anywhere, he expressed interest in the Canucks and they obviously wanted him but at the end of the day it was Stechers decision

You are missing the whole point.

If Benning doesn't want them they can want to play here all they want but it won't happen.

This is the rub against Benning and ownership, yes they ended up rebuilding with really poor finishes, but they weren’t actually trying to rebuild. The Rangers were.

I’m sorry your pom poms don’t fit me. I’ve given both praise and criticism of Benning and it rubs some the wrong way because I’m not a blind loyalist.

I think I would like to see an entire season to see how their rebuild is going.

No I think you’re missing the point, Benning wanted Stecher, but Stecher had the final say as his contact is extremely limited as it’s an entry level contract. You’re completely ignoring the fact the Canucks wanted Stecher.

Anyways, it’s not worth either of our efforts to debate something so silly.

NY will be an interesting measure against VAN this season, and certainly a topic of discussion.

NYR have had brutal signings too. They have things dropped in their lap like Panarin because of the city . They are just as much up against the cap as we are and finished below us in the standings even with all their extra picks.

They had Vessey and Fox drop into their laps and will probably get Rathbone next year.

You are so wrong . Benning had the final say. Many players want to play in their home town but if the GM does not want them on the team they can want all they want but it is not happening.

Sure, good on the rangers for being successful but I don't really buy into the comparison. I prefer to look at what a team attempts to do and how successful they are at it vs trying to compare different teams with different rosters.

It's like comparing Gillis' drafting to Benning's, apple's to oranges.

Compare Gillis to Wilson or another competitive team or Benning to Colorado over the same time period.

It doesn’t matter what happens in other circumstances, in this one Benning wanted Stecher, so Stecher had the last say. He chose to accept Benning’s offer.

Now if Benning DIDN’T want Stecher, then yes, he had the last say. But he did.

We will certainly find out who has the last say when Benning decides whether he wants to offer Stecher a long term contract or not because I am pretty sure Stecher would have liked his last contract for longer and more money .

why do we need to see how the season goes? in the last three drafts where they have been rebuilding they have had, in addition to aquiring prospects (largely from 2016 draft for some reason)

6 first round picks
3 second rounds
3 third round picks

is that not good?
