They stated what is obvious to everyone but you, that the Oilers blow chunks just like you clown!

Sure your boy gives your flames a free ride...of course u r happy...no response to the collapse to kadri's avs other than deflection away from your mediocre team...

I think Holland has done just fine... he's not making knee jerk trades and stupid signings like Chiarelli. He did the best he could with what he had to work with.

You want a bad offseason look no further than Anaheim.

Although not perfect, Vancouver has taken a huge step forward. There’s zero chance that the Oilers finish in front of them. They’ve built slowly and addressed areas of weakness.
Oilers take 1 step forward then 2 back. Smitty becomes your most Effie time passer from your own zone.

- K-man25

And the flames did nothing but sign a goalie who let's in soft goals...overpay tkapunk already so the team can get weaker with leadership that disappears when the going gets tough...SAWFT...

Is it really an achievement when kadri's avs bent your team over just for fun...ironically Smith was the only guy who showed up and he's now an oiler...good thing Giordano got his votes before the playoffs...cause it wasnt a Norris performance...

Oilers essentially replaced Reider and Ratti with Grandlund, Jurco, Haas and Nygard. Plus, improved in Goal with Smith over Stolarz. Flames done nothing except currently sit without Tkachuk, Bennett, Rittich and Mangiapane on the roster from last year. Yet Flames have done great this off season. You said to date. Look at the signed roster to date boys. Asking Flame and Yotes bloggers to look at the fact may be asking too much.

Both Jt miller and Myers are upgrades on what they had.
On a young team that made some strides last year and is looking to take another step.

Now is Myers overrated? Could have they got jt cheaper had they waited ? Both probably yes.
But fact is, those players made them better now.

The oilers were already worse and now are further behind.

- HB77

Not saying they didn't upgrade, but cost has to be factored in. I also don't think Myers is an upgrade on what they already had. Or, at least not enough of one to justify the overpayment. I'll concede that they're showing urgency, at least.

My point is just that I'd rather the Oilers have an uneventful summer and bide their time until next year than blow their money (both present and future) on a winger that should help some and a Dman that likely won't.

Obviously I'd rather they make smart trades along with their solid, cheap bets to fill the 2 major holes on the roster (Nuge's W and 2RD). As such, I'm in no ways suggesting I'm happy with the offseason; just that I've seen where the path of overpaying for those types ends up and that's the last thing this team needs.

Zero chance, huh? That'll be an interesting, absolutist claim to follow through the season. I think both are at best bubble teams that need the right things to click in order to scratch the playoffs.

Heard Smith and Bennett showed up... rest were Charmin soft and hid. You still got those 2 players signed up? You need that.

That depends. If you are considering he is technically the replacement for Gudbranson that they moved during the year last year, then I would call Myers an upgrade (even at the extra 2 mil). If you are talking Schenn, I doubt the talent increase is worth that extra $ cost (not that Schenn was great, just cheap). Still, Tanev is unreliable (health) and might still be moved, then Stetcher is their only other seasoned RD to fit in the top 4.

Tanev is a tough minutes killer but struggles with health and Stecher is a quality 2RD. If he's stepping in on the 3rd pairing behind those two, then why pay 6mil for an upgrade at THAT position? You don't. You pay him that because you want to play him up the line-up.

They're probably gonna overplay him and he's gonna get caught out playing tougher minutes than he has shown capable of winning- especially when Tanev gets his yearly long-term injury. That'll be when he hurts the team most. Maybe they'll strike gold and Green will be able to extract something out of him that Maurice couldn't, but that's an awfully high price to pay for such uncertainty.

Got to think Tanev is on the way out. Everybody overpays at free agency, stupid time of year.

Agree, Flames peeked at the wrong time, see St Louis. At least we didn’t peek in October like your Oilers.

You guys even failed at the draft. Must be disconcerting that you didnt win the draft lottery. Oh, you can always hope for that draft lottery win next year.

The rumor has been around for a while but now his trade value is lower. As for improvements no team in the division did more to add to their team then the Canucks. We'll see in the coming seasons if the price was worth it.

Smith made the playoffs...didn't see the rest of the "team" there. Smith was tired of being blamed and like kadri decided thanks but no thanks flames...

Flames won 50 games...If Smith was average in the first half they would have won 55+ They don't need massive changes

They made the playoffs in February and couldn't ramp it back up again...same as Tampa

poop happens...still lots of summer left.

Calgary was 2nd overall...you honestly think the Oilers will be anywhere near them in the standings?

The season is 2 months out, the Oilers look to miss the playoffs that's not good at all, personally being a flames fan from the late 80s I LOVE IT!!!!

As for the flames time will tell, hopefully they can dog it a bit longer and peak differently not like last year, I believe Talbot will work out well with BSD when he loses in arbitration (least signs point that way with the whole billington signing).

And matty hopefully only misses 5-10 games as he holds out, and so he should if everyone is following suit as no one wants to cave.

GO flames go!

I believe that, despite the lack of action from management. Well I do not know if I would call it lack of action? More than a lack of money, or trading partners? How ever I feel that the additions as a whole are greater than the sum of the additions. They might not light the world on fire, but I think they added so okay depth. Not great, but there is potential. And after 12 years of potential I know Oiler fans are sick of hearing the word potential bandied about. Maybe I have puffed my self retarded but there is a lot of negativity in the fan base(again rightfully so), when going into the offseason, we all know the team was handcuffed by the previous regime. I am glad to have someone at the helm, who did not overpay for more boat anchors. Or to overpay and overvalue problem contracts on other teams. It is frustrating to watch, what we feel like nothing is being done. But when I step back and look, again the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We have a new coaching staff(lets hope we get a new goalie coach), new scouts, and some depth signings that hopefully one or two turn into value contracts.

They paid a dman that was 3rd pairing in Winnipeg first pairing money... not sure how that's a big step forward.
