You do realize that those hard earned Canadian dollars that don't go to the players, venues, staff, go straight into the pockets of the billionaire owners of the teams right? They don't take the money that the players leave on the table and hand it back to you. You do realize this, right?
- mgriffen

This isn't necessarily true.

For a team like the Leafs, which is consistently at at the salary cap max, giving Marner less money would in theory free up money to go to another player.

I am so sick and tired of these supposed " STAR ATHLETES " over valuing themselves. 3 Years in the league and expects to be paid in the top five in the sport. Of which he only cracked the top two lines for the last 12 months. Whatever happened to proving yourself long-term and then reaping the rewards of the hard work and commitment you had shown in your past performances. If the business world was like this we would all be making seven figures and the average consumer would be paying 10 times the amount for daily consumables than we are now. Over the course of week I can guarantee you that most Canadians put in more hours than these guys and surely are not spoiled and doted on. The average person works an incredibly long week, then have home life to worry about i.e. enough money, children, job security, employment, advancement and living pay cheque to pay cheque. Now Mitchy can go and say that he is maybe traded, he has to be on the road all the time and he sacrifices for his family. Too damn bad, he made his choice just like I did. Lived in hotels for 19 months out of 24 while trying to support my family, have moved numerous times and have sacrificed just like most Canadians. He wants to be a Leaf, fine, I get it. But Mitchy, keep in mind what it is like to be a CANADIAN who give up thier hard earned dollars to see you play. If that is not enough, than move on. Your getting bad advice and either a) your stupid to realize it b) You do not care c) your a spoiled little boy who expects to own the world at your age and not put your time in.

Calling a hypocrite a hypocrite. You'd be doing the same thing if you were a player. 20,000 people aren't coming to your kitchen table to watch you eat a ham sandwich. If it really bothers you so much then why are you watching it? Don't break an ankle falling from your high horse.

My point was that buddy isn't getting his money back for tickets. All you're really doing is putting gas in someone else's yacht.

No. He just speaks for all Canadians. And he's going to tell Marner what to do because he's smarter than everyone else.

Just trade Marner and move on. I know he is a very very good player but let’s be honest about him. He had one elite year while playing with Tavares while J.T. only bested his career year by 3/4 points. I’m not saying Marner doesn’t deserve high end money but he does not deserve to be on par with the best players in the league.

9.5 on a 6-7 year deal puts him on par with Kucherov and Stone, to me the best two comparables.

Trade him and Ceci to Min for Dumba, Zucker and a 1st. This helps with our D and Dumba is signed for 4/5 years I think. Zucker also helps with depth on offence and a little more grit we badly need and we also replace the first we traded moving Marleau. Ceci is included because of money and because he apparently stinks.

I still interested in the idea of paying money to watch a guy eat a ham sandwich in his kitchen.

I appreciate how you change your story every day to keep it current.

No doubt:
From Marner offer sheet - something is happening today - gonna be a big day!!! more to come

Next week: It's gonna be a loong summer.

You'd think he'd mix it up with Point, Laine, Boeser, Werenski, Rantanen and all the other RFAs. Maybe something about dominoes...like the first time the domino theory could make sense for him and he won't use it.

This was actually an unfortunate incident that happened when a village people convention was booked adjacent to a furries convention an a nearby hotel.

Of greater concern: A cow at a furry party? I am not so sure the furry sub-culture is bovine-inclusive. I am surprised (privately) that the leather-daddies at the Village People convention would stand idly by and watch this human rights travesty.

AND a short term contract (i.e 5 yrs to take them right to UFA) that's over $10.6 AAV.
- As_I_See_It

RFAs: We want top dollar now, regardless of our position, regardless of whether or not other players out-performed us or whether our teams have won anything. AND, we want to renegotiate in a few years so we can be sure we are still getting paid top dollar without any risk to us because the CBA won't allow our salary to drop too much if we aren't top performers. Oh, and we need the contract to be bonus structured to make it "lock-out" proof.

... and it isn't OUR fault. Speak to our agent. S/he handles this kid of stuff. We just want to play hockey.

We're all jealous we can't live the dream of being paid millions of dollars to play a kids game. But it's not Marner's fault he was born with a God given talent to play hockey. None of us would feel guilty if we were him.

But Dave is bitter because he never got to live his dream of being in the NHL. So he's going to point the finger and tell Marner that he's greedy and selfish. He's a hard working Canadian and he has that right. Makes total sense.

Ek, I just want to start with a formal apology. I was poking fun of you being on the ice for 12 Cup celebrations and I took it too far. I paid the penalty. But happy to be back. To be honest, that was just jealousy. I've been in the building for just ONE Cup presentation, but not 12, and not on the ice. So obviously this proves that you do have some solid NHL connections.

I've also been thinking more about what Ek said in the past...he's just reporting the stuff he hears. But by their very nature, most of the rumours don't actually come true. That's just the way it goes. So all of these people giving you grief because you missed some of the UFA signings are just being silly. By my count, you were the breaking source on most of those rumours. Dreger and McKenzie and Lebrun had a few but I noticed you were the source on a lot of stuff. So keep up the good work.

If you are hearing that offer sheets and trades are merely delayed right now and that we could have SIX guys holding out then that's big if true.

Which is why it is absolutley 100% true that the players are going to fight for a bigger share and they will call it "changes to the escrow".

This is why the owners need to actually crush this union once and for all.
