plus, to get one of the top 3 contracts, you need to be a top player starting in your first year after being drafted and consistently from there.

marner was playing with boys his 1st year and put up huge numbers in his 4th year after being drafted.

McDavid won the calder in his 1st year and has been putting up huge numbers since his 2nd year out.

no way has mitch earned mcdavid money. and the lack of offer sheets proves it.

Probably just having different numbers put on isn't too pricey, and he'll probably have some sort of bulk deal in place with RealSports, rather than paying the regular price for each change.

Still, a good idea to work on his image any way he can.

The only reason I say that is because had the Leafs not signed Tavares, I don't think we'd have cap issues. I also don't think Matthews and Marner ask for or get $11M per.

With that said, I am still really, really happy we got Tavares to sign here.
