But sending him back down a portion of his salary is accounted towards the teams salary cap.

Considering right now they have when you drop down to 7 defenseman they have just over 4 million left with roughly 3 to 4 more players to add to fill the roster.

Being up against the cap just means Stan has to be more conscience in salaries if someone gets injured for a short period.

- Taylorst1
As long as a player is making under the $1.025m buriable minimum, they wouldn't count against the cap no matter if the have a one or two-way contract. Since your proposal was for him to sign for $750k, then it doesn't matter what contract type he gets - he'll be able to be buried fully no matter way. For example, Martinsen was on a one-way contract worth $650k and he was fully buried in the AHL. One-way status doesn't impact anything except that a player will be paid the same in the AHL as the NHL.

Riconut?? lol, lol, lol, lol. Clever................... Bows, sure I think you are very challenged digesting the few hockey games you watch a yr and find it sad you feel the need to travel the internets with 7-8-9 buds to protect each other but can't say for sure I ever saw you lie, besides posting under different names I mean.

And what did you say to my challenge? Refresh my poor memory, my head has taken a few pucks over the decades.

- Mr Ricochet

That's its about as pathetic as a person can be challenging someone on the internet to a fight.

But then. You are pathetic with the same weak make believe posse poop you have been spewing for years.

So whatever. I will just go back to ignoring you.

I think the posse crap has run its course - let’s try to be a little more creative.

You're a tolerant sort Sage, plus I don't get around much........ You have another term for 6-7-8-9 guys who feel the need to travel together for support? I kinda like posse and think the posse does too. ...... But I'm open for suggestions.

I like the AA/Smith trade. Smith brings a lot more to the table. Not to mention a little extra space in the check book. This team now has a new identity. Whole new level of toughness, edge and sandpaper. Liking it!!!!!

No phrases from me - just looking for a place to go for hockey talk, perhaps a music reference or two, a little humor....

If I wanted this crap I’d be watching CNN or Fox.

I have a feeling Dach is going go be the 3rd line center, yes a little green, but if he can skate, he's a bigger body, thinks the game well, supposedly works hard on the defensive end, why not.

I wonder if they wanted to see him live and believe what they were seeing when they were scouting him. It's interesting it happens after 2 days of camp, just spit balling, but it's probably Perlini

- BetweenTheDots

Just hypothesizing but my take is if Dach does make the team, he starts out at wing on the 3rd line to get his feet wet with lower QOC. Then say he passes the first test of the initial 9 games and has staying power, over the course of the season he moves up to top 6 playing wing.

Assuming he plays his first season this year, I don't think he plays center until later in the year at the earliest. More realistically next season, IMO. Let's see his progress from prospect camp to Traverse City tourney to training camp then go from there.

Ok, have to ask...can we play Saad at 3C??? I know I may be crazy for asking this but is it an option you think?

Start bashing me now for asking, lol.

Simply, no. Saad has been a winger pretty much his whole career.

One plays with toughness and hits the other one not physical at all.
- vandymeer23

There are players in the league who play aggressively and yet don't take nearly as many penalties. Theres nothing wrong with hitting, unless you're bad at it. And it's not ideal for the team with the worst PK in the league to take on a player who takes that many penalties. Whatever contributions he makes to helping the PK will just be negated by how much more often he makes us use it.

I thought they entertained the Saad at C thing once and it was pretty much scrapped immediamente.

Yep, she later posted that the metrics have them about even defensively. My main point has been that they are different players - one 3C (a position with little depth), the other a 4C/W (a position of depth). Giving up the former for the latter appears to me to be creating a weaker roster down the middle than they had at the end of the season. Hopefully they can add a real center who can help the third line with offense.
- mohel

I share the same perspective.

Getting gritty, hard to play against forwards is great because the team could use more of those since they're especially valuable in a playoff hunt and in the post season. But slotting is still important, too, otherwise a growing collection of 4th liners means you err towards icing two 4th lines (or at least two checking lines) rather than a clear cut 3rd line and clear cut 4th line.

To me, the 3rd line should be solid on defense but also contribute quite a bit of secondary scoring with ideally 35-45 points per forward. While I really do like Smith, he's not going to deliver that type of offense. Neither will Kampf nor Carpenter. Maybe Caggiula can get to 35 points?

Like LA said, I think it lasted a period or so. He isn't a center. It would end up being like when they tried Kane at center. No one needs to see that again.

So....I’ve had time to digest this move, my emotions have settled, and I’ve listened and understood the people who really believe this was a good move.

I still hate it.

That is fair.

I have a blog ready for first thing this morning. More Zack Smith / AA chat will commence then.

Whoa

I missed about 15 pages, came on to talk smack about the trade and looks like we have an internet fight....possibly gang related with the posse?!?

Sa wheeeet

I'm on whatever team is against Leddy. If he's like Leddy himself, he isnt very bright or tough, so I have a shot.
