Except that his skill set is 4th line at best, and he’s a Left Wing.
- Ogilthorpe2

AA's skill set is negligibly better. His best years as a Hawk was centering Breadman and Kane. After Breadman left AA was just another bottom 6 forward.

I don't know the first thing about Zack Smith, but the Hawks can now bring up three guys and be cap compliant. That could be a bit different if they have to pay Perlini more than $1.5 mill, though.

I'm fine with AA being moved, but adding another forward makes things crowded. Who stays out of Kubalik Sikura Dach Nylander Smith Carpenter Queneville and possibly Perlini?

Kane, Toews, Cat, Strome, Shaw, Kampf, Saad, Caggiula (to a lesser extent) are all locks.

I originally thought it would be Kubalik Dach, Nylander and Carpenter making the team, but idk where smith fits in now. Him and Carpenter rotate out?

If they pay Perlini a penny more than what his qualifying offer was, then Stan should be fired immediately.

Smith is a solid bottom 6 guy. Can skate. 120 plus hits chip in 12-15 goals. Good PK guy. Takes face offs. I don’t see how this a bad trade. Anisimov provides nothing to this team that it actually needs. Shaw replaces any scoring loss from Anisimov leaving... Shaw and Smith in the bottom six adds some much needed grit.

Here's the thing - they go from a team with three scoring lines and one shutdown line to a team with two scoring lines and two checking lines. Unless Dach is ready, or there's more to come.
- mohel

Agreed. Anisimov may have been slow and on the decline, but he gets goals.

I'm just as hopeful about Dach as the next guy but he hasn't done anything against grown men yet. Seems like more is coming.

Pat Stapleton and Richard Glassford owned both Ice Arenas, Downers and Carol Stream. And the wooden boards from the Stadium did wind up in the Downers Grove rink. I'm sure the connection for getting them was Whitey and I think the cost wasn't much as the hawks were getting new ones. That might be when the Stadium started using the plastic boards.

I haven’t been at either of those rinks in a couple of years, but unless someone has done something since then, they have to be 2 of the crappiest rinks in the Chicagoland area. At Carol Stream it had been so long since they had repainted the surface that the blue lines were basically not visible. The Zamboni at Downers was using a bedsheet as the water diffuser. Not a penny has been put into those rinks in years, yet they are still asking premium rental fees.

Three scoring lines? Did you watch the Hawks last year? At best after the Strome trade the Hawks had 2 scoring lines but there was no consistency. Yes Kane scored and yes ADB scored and yes Toews found the back of the net. But the Hawks had no depth or toughness in the bottom six and were a disaster on defense. AA added nothing to our bottom six last season. He was not a shut down center. He was not a faceoff whiz. He was not a scoring machine. So what did the Hawks lose in trading AA?

Potentially. Shaw and Saad on the third line has some scoring punch. Will be interesting to see how this roster fills out. Kubaliak is a wild care scoring wise I think. If he comes in and provides a bit more offense than Kahun then the Hawks have plenty of scoring depth. Not holding my breath on Nylander being a top 6 wing suddenly.

Unless there is another move or we see Kampf locked in at 3C (yuck) it seems Dach might be the one that is being given the spot....earned or not.

You must be thinking about AA from three years ago because last season he was blah. Last years AA had 15 goals and 37 points compared to Smith who had 9 goals and 28 points. Smith played 8 fewer games and played on one of the worst offensive teams.
