... and THERE is your Anisimov trade.
Artem Anisimov for Zach Smith (OTT). - Tyler Cameron
How does Zach Smith fit into Chicago's line up and has Stan basically decided Dach will be making the team and centering the 3rd line ? Also do you believe Stan has 1 or 2 more moves potentially? |

Here's the rationale behind the Anisimov-Smith trade, from what I figure:
- they're both 31
- Smith saves $1.3 million in cap space, allowing them to re-sign Perlini easily
- Smith is better on faceoffs. Over past 4 years, he's won 50.2%, Anisimov 45.1% - jt19
Looks like he's a PK guy too. 14 short handed goals in his career. |

perlini has to be the next domino to fall: either he is signed or moved with the next few days...no reason for this to remain unresolved now...
my view...move his rights... |

Except that his skill set is 4th line at best, and he’s a Left Wing. |

AA has better scoring numbers and is solid defensively. This looks to be a cap trade because I think AA is the better player. - paulr
AA is soft and over-rated. Hawks just lost a passenger. |

This.
Downers Grove Ice Arena is supposed to be the same size and rumor has it that the old Stadium boards ended up there. Wouldn't surprise me if old Dollar Bill tried to recoup a couple of bucks by reselling the boards. - Rota's Rooter
Pat Stapleton and Richard Glassford owned both Ice Arenas, Downers and Carol Stream. And the wooden boards from the Stadium did wind up in the Downers Grove rink. I'm sure the connection for getting them was Whitey and I think the cost wasn't much as the hawks were getting new ones. That might be when the Stadium started using the plastic boards. |

They'll sign him, this org sees his potential and is salivating at the player he could become. |

That's fine. Zack Smith is barely an NHL player. |

He’ll never be anything more than Jack Skille 2.0
(frank) him.
If we gave up our best candidate for 3C to accommodate his lazy ass that’s not a good move. |

Smith is a solid bottom 6 guy. Can skate. 120 plus hits chip in 12-15 goals. Good PK guy. Takes face offs. I don’t see how this a bad trade. Anisimov provides nothing to this team that it actually needs. Shaw replaces any scoring loss from Anisimov leaving... Shaw and Smith in the bottom six adds some much needed grit. |

It makes no sense. The Hawks just got weaker. - Ogilthorpe2
Maybe from an offensive perspective but Zack Smith is better on the dot than AA and has killed penalties as well. Plus it frees up a bit of cap room for the Hawks to fill out the roster |

Save $1.2MM per year in cap, only a two year commitment, and he is 49% at the dot versus 45% for AA.
As I suspected, OTT was the eventual landing space for AA - I just don't think there was much of a market for him. It also allows OTT to commit to a decent deal for Cody White.
Time will tell, but enough on paper benefits to justify the deal to me at this point.
No way Dach plays bottom six for the Hawks. He will get his chance, but I really wish people would not rush to pencil him in the NHL lineup just yet.... |

Here's the thing - they go from a team with three scoring lines and one shutdown line to a team with two scoring lines and two checking lines. Unless Dach is ready, or there's more to come. |

Well, let's see what else happens between now and October - still some moves that could be made - altho now, I can't see what they logically could be.
Wirtz apparently took a big cash hit to save $1.3MM in cap space.
Jokiharju for Nylander - Anisimov for Smith - hard to figure these as logical hockey moves for the coming season.
Everyone here who has wanted this team to get bigger - Stan has seen to that this summer. |
