The suggestion that Montreal will offer sheet Laine is laughable. I get it, he’s a good player and may be a great player but his consistency issues would make it. Ext to impossible for Montreal to provide a competitive offer sheet for Laine that the jets wouldn’t match. And if it’s a sky high offer then they’re giving up significant picks for a player who has yet to establish himself as a difference maker. Don’t get me wrong, he is a difference maker but disappears for months at a time.
I don’t see Montreal taking a risk. If you’re looking for a player I’d say Kyle Connor would be a better shot to take at this point. He’s shown his consistency and plays the first line.
Seems like a bunch of crap drummed up by the media at this point. |

Money is gonna end up real tight for them real soon. Why not get a return on a huge gamble in Laines talent? They have other good talent on the rise to. But I'd lock up Connor before Laine. |

I don't know why everyone presumes these RFA's are going to be "offersheeted"... You now there are such things as trades, and trades make way more sense than offersheets.
It makes way more sense to get a player that can play now, a prospect or 2 and a couple of picks for these RFA's....
How many teams can just afford to give up a star RFA?? yea and replace that player with WHOM?
Now obviously a team isn't going to get a player that can fill that star RFA's shoes, but at least it's a player that can fill the void left by the RFA...
So yea, a trade for Marner, Rantanen or Laine is far more likely than an offer sheet... The only reason to poach a player you want is if the team the RFA player plays for is refusing to listen to trade offers.... So yea, before offer sheets are even considered I would presume trade offers for the players rights are made first...

So the other team would have to offer something worth more than 4 1st. |

The Jets will match any offer for Laine so he won't be going anywhere. |

So another team should just offersheet him to mess up their cap structure. |

The whole league is basically waiting on standby to see what Bergy is going to do. Everyone knows a big splash is coming but nobody knows when or what that's the exciting part. Habs brass don't leak anything.
One thing is for certain is the Houdini of GM's has something big up his sleeve and we just have to wait and see when it drops. Buckle up!

Except that at 3/30 the compensation isn't 4 firsts. There's a reason they call you turbo isn't there. |

Not really....
How do you replace Laine right now with 4 first round picks? you cant.
I'm sure in any deal there would be picks going back, but the Jets will want someone adequate (but obviously not as good) coming back in a trade to replace Laine, and maybe some more depth in the process, a decent prospect and a 1st round pick, or a couple of picks....
Look, a team just cant give up a star player for picks - it would hurt the team now.. Any team trading a star player needs warm bodies coming back to fill the void left by the player being moved out...
I mean do the Jets have someone right now that can fill Laine's roll? no they don't..

You can get hell of a replacement for 4 1st round picks. You'll have to trade something of higher value than that. |

But you need to ask why he is not consistent.
Any person is different but Winnipeg is not a great city except if you're a outdoors person.Offer sheet below the limit for 4 first rounder make sense

Kind of agree with you but a Peg can flip those picks now or at the trade deadline for 2 or 3 players at different positions to balance out the roster and who together provide the same output (50g,20A) as PL.
Toronto would do that same with 4 first for Marner. Can flip each of the 1st to get 40-50pt players. Together they equal or exceed Marners production at same or lower cost. |

3/30 would be 2 firsts a second and a third. Do your homework. |

Lol. Acquired as 50+pt defenseman. Signed two young productive wingers for cheap for 3 and 4 years. Rid the leafs of the Marleau salary.
