I would rather go the trade route for a defenseman then sign Gardiner long-term. I know you lose "assets" in a trade but I think we might be able to get a younger and maybe better upside player then Gardiner.

Vatanen is selling low right now. I don't see him getting moved.

That would be a stellar lineup if Vats can handle the off wing. Otherwise, I would be happy with Gardiner to a 1-3 year deal, so long as we trade Vats for a RW.

Shero made it clear that everybody is fair game. And Greene could be a solid bottom pairing D on a contender. Give the guy a serious chance with a contender.

Its actually a great message, "Dont matter who you are, if you suck you aint playing."
Or dress him as the 7th D and give Nico, Hall, Hughes ,more ice time with that open forward spot.

Closer to the deadline I would say he could absolutely be traded if we’re not in a playoff spot. But I would assume that means hall would be gone too.
