Yes and no. There are very few actual pom pommers and very few actual blind haters. If you cant back up anything to support whether you either hate or love every move they do, I would think you classify as one or the other. I personally dont care how anyone views this management and the decisions, as long as you can support your statements, I dont think most people care which way anyone leans. - Codes1087

That isn't going to happen. He doesn't have a leg to stand on. |

Yeah, I'm definitely in the middle. I'm neither pro nor against Benning. He has built a good pool of talent but we have done the poops to help that. He held on and tried to retool on the fly which is literally the dumbest thing in the world. I think he is going all in too soon but we can't just draft forever. Have to make moves at some point. If this back fires and we miss the playoffs. I don't think the damage will be as bad because we still have the young core. - anavar
Yeah same . I look at the prospect pool and like it. I liked last years team and style of play and think this year is even better

This year will definitely be better than last, I think we will be flirting with the playoffs and might sneak in. My gut feeling. Obviously injuries can derail but last year was the tits for injuries and our schedule is better.... If we roll with Eddie and tanev and they stay a tiny bit healthier, it could be okay. |

I really had my doubts about Benning for a few years but I have to say the last two years I am happy with the Canucks - VANTEL
I'm definitely more fired up this year for the start of the season than I have in years. Curious to what Myers Miller and Ferland will add to our team. See how they mesh with the young guys. |

I like that they got speed talent and toughness throughout the roster. I think they could surprise a few people |

Chances are that not all additions will satisfy. Someone is bound to underachieve. I just keep looking at it like a team and not 23 individuals. The whole picture.

The emergence of a young core has other players wanting to play here. Resulting in better moves. |

I've doubted benning more often than I have given him praise, but I cant gripe about what hes done this offseason. Still prefer less term on myers, and paid less/negotiated harder on miller trade, but the acquisitions of those players I am a big fan of. Like the consensus, i havent been this excited for a season to start in many many years. |

There are comps & situational arguments to be made that would give him a hell of a case. I think we’ll have to walk away from his award. Trade him with Loui. |

I'm more pro Benning then not.
Biggest problem with a "rebuild" is everyone again has their own idea. You get the ones that think a rebuild should take only a few short seasons to recreate a 23 man roster. Others that are in it for the long haul and willing to allow management to take a couple extra years to do it right.
Me, i've got a 6 year rebuild to return to being competitive. Two years to get near the bottom. 2 years to sit at the bottom and 2 years to raise back into contention.
JB hasn't taken that exact course but it's been close IMO.

TG now has more depth so if someone is floundering they likely won't be in the line up. |

I don't know if you saw my quote from Rutherford the other day about free agency. GM's know exactly what free agency is about. It's about improving your team and doing it without costing assets. They know they are giving too many years and too much money but if you want to improve your team, that's what you have to do. Getting lucky and having the contracts work out in the GM's favour doesn't happen all that often.
Same as the trade for Miller. Say Benning offered a 2nd and 3rd instead of a conditional 1st. If that's the price, you probably have 10-15 more teams that are now interested in Miller. A player like Miller at his age with his contract would usually look like an overpayment by a team acquiring him. I don't think Jim overpaid considering if he wanted the player he would have had to outbid 10-15 other teams. |

Willes wrote an article saying the Canucks have the most "middle contracts" in the division if not league. Basically contracts between 3-4.99 million dollars.
He see's it as the Canucks needing those players to step up for being middle players or something blah blah blah.
I see it as when the prospects continue to develop and push for roster spots, those middle contracts will be moved out. At deadlines or in the offseason and other prospects or picks will be acquired from them.
Shaw, Burakowsky, moved this offseason.
Coyle, Johansson, Dzingel, Zuccarello, Hagelin, Boyle, Rask, Neideritter, Cogliano. All moved at last years trade deadline.
Free players signed in the off seasons to replenish the prospect pool in the future. |
