This team is so screwed.... we have no wiggle room and the assets we are looking to move have little to no value. - Reveen.
It’s why I have zero expectations and will watch more Condors instead.....maybe hope can be renewed if we can use the 24 mil next offseason to make the team better (well 11-13 after resignings) |

In relation to where it is now, yes. Compared to the majority of the league, no.
At 22 years old he's still considered at the beginning of his peak. At 24/25 he will be reaching his peak, historically at least. He's relatively healthy now and considered the best player in the game universally.
There's not much more he could to increase his value.
In a couple years there might be a health concern, if the Oilers stink still, the narrative might change about him not being a good leader, or whatever media/fan speculation. There might be a new player who is considered the best player in the game as well.
Much more likely IMO that the value goes down than up or even remains stagnant. - belcherbd
A players prime is widely regarded as 25-30. If you think mcdavid is going to cap out at 25 you are nuts. |

He’s as good or better than Crosby and Sid is still winning MVPs and awards in his thirties. Think McDavid will be fine barring a bad injury. |

He's likely confusing offensive prime with playing prime. While it's true that player's offensive totals often peak between the ages of 22 to 25, their results totals are often peak in their mid-to-late 20s as you say. The whole "complete player" argument, in essence. |

Lucic for LE won't happen unless there are additional players involved. Extra year and skating too much a problem. |

I'm certainly not saying he will cap out at 25.... I expect McDavid will be one of, if not the best players in the NHL through his 20's much like Crosby.
I'm saying, I think his value now, is as high as it's likely going to get unless you expect the Oilers to win a cup in the next couple of years.
He'll still be worth a premium in a couple years but I imagine the haul he could get now would be insane. |

I think you're correct but I'm a little confused by offensive totals vs result totals?
Are you saying players peak offensive play is between 22-25 but they are more effective at winning in their mid to late 20's because they are more compete players?
If so that's an interesting theory but not something I've seen before. |

He won’t be getting traded so it doesn’t matter....I could use the Mario or Yzerman examples again but that’s a waste of time....yes a haul for McDavid now or two years from now would be insane but no it’s not happening

How I quantify "result totals" is by on-ice goal share and, to a lesser extent, chance share (both raw and team relative) and the associated effects that winning or dominating those battles can have on opposition. It's by no means true for everyone and not a direct parallel, but it seems to hold truth for the top end players. |

You guys need a winger and I know of one that would fit perfectly with you. He even put up 23g and 21 a with a broken down Pavel Datsyuk. You can acquire him cheap.
Best of all...he is hard to play against.

Big Z? But there isn't a lot of cap room left...and if there isn't a lot of money on the table, Hank won't lace em up

Too much to do in one season? How about doing something. Anything! Toronto’s GM solved almost all of their problems. They were in cap hell too. |

Too much to do in one season? How about doing something. Anything! Toronto’s GM solved almost all of their problems. They were in cap hell too. - Ihatebrianburke bobs interview process after ignoring the multitude of young gms with new ideas
So what’s your strategy ken?
Well, there’s just too much to do and the team is so bad so I’ll probably just do nothing and wait. Maybe everything will just work itself out and all the unproven players will have career years and make me look like a genius? I can always use the “needed a season to figure out the team” line afterwards. Those sucker fans eat it up. I mean I’m “in the game” for years so I obviously know my stuff better than anyone who hasn’t had a chance yet right ?
Wow ken, totally outside the box thinking. I think we really need all that experience you bring cause those young gms with fresh ideas really have no idea what they’re doing.
Cool thx, If you don’t hire me, you’ll have to hire one of the other old boys club retreads that have been fired elsewhere anyway.
Also, I’ll need about 5 million.
Great, you’re hired |

I’m not trying to be a Holland apologist here....I wasn’t a fan of the draft or missed trades or a lack of getting us a top 6 forward but you can’t compare him to Dubas.....the Leafs had enough depth at forward that they can do a trade like Kadri for Barrie because even after that they still have 5-6 quality forwards which is 3 more then we had to begin with....I believe Marleau only had a year left on his deal so his contract was easier to move....also easier to trade a 1st to make it happen when you know it’s not going to be a high pick....it’s different situations
