Agreed. They will move out whoever they have to to get him in. He wants what Matthews got, period. That's all I have been saying and I think it's true. HE will sit and wait until 11.6 x 5 is faxed over. Maybe he would consider 12 x 6 but he wants what Matthews got bottom line. - aminnes
He'll be doing a lot of that then. |

Not one player making over 8 million last season:
Boston
St. Louis
San Jose
Carolina
Colorado
Columbus
NY Islanders
Dallas was the only team last season to make it to the second round with a player making over 8 million. - aminnes
Do we read anything into that? Do we expect that to repeat this year? And Sharks have since added an 11.5 million player and Colorado weill have to give Rantanen over 8, Canes are paying Aho 8.5, Islanders were ready to give 11+ to Panarin but he went to Rangers.
In short it means ziltch and I would not think it means the Leafs can't have a big run. |

yes. the age of the cap circumventing contract is dead. from 2010 to 2017, every cup champ had a least one cap circumventing deal on their roster.
gm's that can sign players to good value contracts will win cups.

Ok, but almost all those teams came up short and their answer was to add 8+ players. LOL. GMS don't agree that you read into that at all.
The Caps had some very high salaries FYI. It means nothing. |

Leafs have good value contracts.
Do you honestly think you'll see all teams going to the 2nd round with no 8 milion players again? |

It's getting good value contracts that is difficult.
Players seem to be moving away from security and towards betting on themselves on short term deals. Players also seem to be putting up real big numbers during the ELCs.
The Mckinnon contracts are going to be harder to come by if this trend continues.

part of the issue is scoring is up half a goal a game over the last 2 years vs. the previous several.
but guys are getting paid as if scoring hasn't changed. |

Let's revisit this after they've re-signed Point this off-season.
Then let's revisit again after next season when, and if, they sign Vasilevskiy and Sergachev. |
