Who's done better on a 5 yr deal?

Toews, Kane, Matthews, STamkos, Crosby and Malkin ...

He got more than Getzlaf and Perry.

The fact that he signed it with another team ...

I think it's a good deal for both sides. I wouldn't call it team friendly though.

except all these guys were a year younger than marner coming of their elc's.

i don't think he should be getting more than what draisalt got in edmonton.

All those guys signed 5 yr deals and stayed.

For me he's better than SS but not quite at Gino level.

Stamkos same deal today = 5 x 9.5
Gino same deal today = 5 x 12.5

Middle ground would have been 11.

AM is better than Stamkos?
Until he wins 2 rockets and scores at ppg for 10+years...I'm gonna have to disagree

Point a game, best even strength goal scoring centre.
- GreatGigInTheSky

Still a little overpaid, but it is what it is.

And hes not a ppg...but very close.

Doesn’t matter what facts and numbers you use. Some people will simply ignore it because it doesn’t match their feelings.

Just smile and nod.

I wonder if we'll all keep speculating on Marner's contract everyday until he does sign/is traded/signs an offersheet/dies.

They want shorter deals because of what they believe will be more cash in the system coming up soon.
After Seattle joins
New cba
New tv deal.
Once all that occurs, youll probably see a short trend towards longer deals unless the new cba only allows up to 5 years.

- Fakepartofme

Yup and Short deals give them the best shot getting the big 8 yr deal at age 27.28.

Not here.
People are reasonable, they'll move on to something else.......right?

Plus not much else going in leafy/Toronto land right now.

Unless we wanna talk about Vlad's 90 dingers!

Uggh ...I need a power point presentation for this.

AM today vs. SS 3 yrs into his career. Very comparable.

You said 70 point centre so I assumed you were talking about last season, where he was a point a game. But yeah, all things being equal, he will be a point a game for his career after this next season.

First 3 years:

SS GP (243) G (119) A (113) PTS (232)
AM GP (212) G (111) A (94) PTS (205)

very very comparable.

SS had two plus seasons of 90+ pts.
I think SS leads AM by 30 pts the 1st three years.

But PPG they are almost exact.

Will your power point show how SS had (2) 90+ point seasons at that age, during a lower scoring era? Then SS scored 60 goals in year 4.

I'm not saying AM can't be better than SS, I just think it's premature to say that now.

AM rookie season was better, but wasn't SS playing like 10 mins a night under a terrible coach in his rookie year? SS year 2 and 3 were clearly ahead of AM
