I love that American sports radio is just two douches poopting on pro athletes and here in Canada everybody is on eggshells about potentially insulting somebody. |

That's double Kucherov! He did 3 x 4.7 on his bridge. - The Law
Yes, but before his bridge contract he did around 65 points
Not 94. |

yeah. a 3 year deal is 6ish for marner imo.
i really don't get it. unless marner has the balls to sign an offer sheet, he really has minimal leverage.

I love the guy, scored a ton, still 65 points behind #1 though ( I realize he missed some games )
My opinion is he got 8 yr money and a 5 year term and it will be even more crushing if he walks after 5. - Garnie
All those guys signed 5 yr deals and stayed.
For me he's better than SS but not quite at Gino level.
Stamkos same deal today = 5 x 9.5
Gino same deal today = 5 x 12.5
Middle ground would have been 11. |

Agreed. He's got amunition to get more ...but not double.
Another comp ......Patty Kane (good comp) got a 5 yr deal at the equivalent of 9 million today.
Marner doesn't get almost a milly more and sign for 2 less years. |

I'm not arguing against MM or his value. I just think some of the "guesses" are way out of whack with anything that's ever been done in the NHL.
Maybe Marner establishes some new norm but it's never happened before. |

Meh, 8 yr 11.5 would have been da best.

Not sure he’s better then SS either, he’s on Ovie level when it comes to the PP 1 timer. |

I agree, problem was that conversation lasted this long ..."No".
Matthews obviously made the 5 yr term a 'must have'. A lot of the elite guys did in the past so Dubas didn't have a lot of leverage. I think McDavid and Ovechkin were the exceptions rather than the rule. |

Again, context.
Meier at 6 for only RFA years. He didn't give up any UFA years. 6 was about right.
Labanc is (frank)ed ....not sure why that happened but I think we're all guessing that next summer he'll be given a big (frank)ing kiss by the Sharks.
Aho is NOT team friendly. 8.5 on a 5 yr puts him ahead of Getzlaf and Perry and almost on par with Kane and Toews on their post-ELC deals. |

Then Leafs should have said "no", he's a RFA not a UFA.
But I'm glad he's signed and I'm not the GM, so no sweat off my crack |

I think his numbers stack up well against SS. Malkin outpaced them both but his first 3 yrs were yrs 3-5 post draft as opposed to SS and AM entering the league right away. Tough to compare but I think Matthews side succeeded in arguing that he's closer to Malkin then he was Stamkos.

Aho is pretty team friendly. A PPG guy for the next 5 years at 8.5 is great in this climate. |
