My groin is all tingly from this.

Haterz rejoiced at the fact that Toronto was not going to be able to keep all it's young guns. July 1st, 2019 was going to be the day of reckoning.

CAP HELL!

OFFER SHEETS!

BLOW IT UP!

And now that none of it has happened, do these tiny richards come on here to post a mea culpa or two?

No. It's the second franking week of July, and they are already posting the exact same poop about next year.

Why this weird, unhealthy obsession with the Leafs?

Franking sad.

Franking hilarious.

- Atomic Wedgie

Who is saying blow it up? I said there is going to be a cap crunch and it will be a tight fit. I am not saying it cant be done but the defense is likely going to take a hit.

Fortunately, we currently don't have any overpaid 3rd/4th liners.

Based on what? You're just pulling random poop out of your ass because you don't like him. Did a pretty blonde boy steal your girlfriend in highschool? Are you secretly in love with him, a forbidden love that you can't fulfill?

Any idea what Philly's cap situation is or their FA situation?

Yeah, neither do I, because I couldn't give a poop about the team or the city.

- Aetherial

That is nice.... some people are fans of hockey not just one individual team. Is that a crime? I'm a big Fantasy hockey guy, it pays off to know a lot about other teams and other teams have great players I like to watch. Do I require your permission to be a fan of hockey?

even if nylander puts up 80 points next season, he still isn't a player that will make the difference in the playoffs.
it's not about points solely, it's about wanting to win at the expense of all.
tavares, rielly, marner, matthews and a few others are guys that give you a legit chance to win a SC.
Nylander is negative value.

- MaximusAurelius

Marner had 1 more point than Nylander.

Significantly so, although Leafs should add one experienced d-man not named Marincin.

ok ... let me get this straight?
you are saying that william nylander is a player that plays with heart?
that he is playing with maximum effort and enthousiasm - a guy that is a difference maker at high-pressure key moments during critical games?

Ridiculous to harp on Nylander and an outlier half season. A full season playing with Matthews will offer better insight on a comparison with Marner playing with JT.

Debatable. Barrie and Gardiner to me seems like a lateral. I get Barrie produces but you really think the Avs trade Barrie and retain cap on him if he was such a good Dman? The D looks the same to me. Maybe I am wrong about him, time will tell. Cant say I have seen him play too often, usually in bed when Western teams play.

Third line also looks downgraded. Spezza is done. Kadri is a way better C than Spezza is now, when he isnt suspended of course. Personally I would slot AJ ahead of him.

Maybe the avs retained salary on Barrie in order to facilitate a trade for a #2 Centre who provides cost certainty by having a team friendly cap hit for the next three seasons

exactly correct... addition in several cases by subtraction.

1) Love him or hate him Gardiner is a declining resource - with (now) a wonky back - replaced by Muzzin or Dermott depending upon how you view Gardiner or last year... 2nd pairing or third (+1 Leafs )
2) Zaitsev replaced by Ceci (0 call it a wash)... although I suspect Ceci will be very focused due to his contract status - make it or break it year
3) add Barrie (+2) over whoever was playing in the no 2 or no 3/4 spot last season - plus he's a RHD... the Leafs simply didn't have a dynamic RHD last year at all
4) Hainsey - like Gardiner a declining resource and at age 37/38... wasn't going to get better - although will certainly need to be replaced on PK (+1)
5) hopefully one of the kids gets a legitimate shot in the first couple of months - rather than inserted for one game at the 60game of the season
6) full season of Muzzin

Actually, the phrase "playing with heart" talking about effort is an overused and misused phrase. Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Rielly are all dedicated gym rats. They practice and work on improving all the time. This young core of the team plays with more than heart, they play with joy. They absolutely love playing and are an exceptional group. Good times are coming, sorry if you don't see it or buy in.

why are you speaking about them being 'gym rats'?
i'm speaking about in-game situations.
willie floats and doesn't want to give it all to win the puck, get the goal, make the assist etc.
the preparation should be the standard. not sure why you're applauding players for preparing well.
the point is that nylander is not competing as hard as others during games.
