How do you figure? Project the RFA's and we're working right around the max and it impacts every move we make. They may even have to tap into LTIR.
- Lunaion

They are operating close to the cap this year with RFAs but next year you have 9 UFAs and 3 RFAs.

There will be $40M in cap space next year and really only Vesey will be a priority to resign. If he pots like 20-25 goals it might cost 2.85M. Nelson also likely but should cost 1.5M max. Sheary at 3M is not getting resigned unless he breaks out. Scans/Hunwick/Bogo/Sobotka/Zemgus/Wilson go UFA gone.

RFAs:
Casey: Let's say he does alright and gets a 3x2.55M bridge.
Montour: Now he's your wild card. I could see him wanting 6+M AAV.
Samson: Hopefully another good year. Let's go with 7.25Mx4

Also brought back VO, Tage, Pilut, Nelson, Ullmark, & ERod.

Skinner/Jack/Reinhart
VO/Casey/MJ
Vesey/Asplund/Tage
Ruotsalainen/Erod/KO

Dahlin/Montour
Joker/Risto
Pilut/Miller
McCabe
Nelson

Hutton
Ullmark

Now this only left me with 5M in space but we have too many quality Dmen and does not include Cozens.

Re-posting from earlier this morning. Do you make this trade?

Risto, Okposo and 2021 first round pick for

- Slump Buster[insert bag of beans]

Keep in mind that Toronto had to pay a first to get rid of one year of a bad contract. We're looking at multiple years left. We would essentially be buying 6 mill of cap space over that time.

Good luck finding a team with 12 mil in cap space who wants to blow it all on those two players.

More realistically, Risto could be traded for cheap assets to one team, and then those assets used to throw in an Okposo dump. Gonna need two teams here.

Lol... Arizona does a great job of collecting picks for doing this. They are 2nd least cap space in the NHL right now.

Why would they trade Risto for cheap assets?

You're right - that's a separate question. I just thought it would be fun to kick around.

In smaller amounts, no one is taking 12 million in one deal without sending something back. Not for those two anyway,

Because they have 47 defensemen? Because draft picks or cost controlled players are really good? Because they can flip them for a top six forward?

The teams that can take on his salary AND want to part with a top six forward is a tiny list. A three way deal or two deals is a lot easier to pull off.

For example, Vegas needs cap space. So trade them two picks for Gusev. Then trade Risto to replenish your lost picks.

Lol no I agree. Taking that much money would be hard for one team to do.

Now if are gonna talk about Arizona taking Risto/KO/1st.... I'd be in the boat of getting Derek Stepan back.

Now.... they certainly don't need any help on defense as they have a gluten of top 4 dmen already in OEL, Golio, Demers, Hjlamarsson, and Chychrun. So for them to take on Risto as the main piece coming back does not carry weight.

So.... yea the whole thing wouldn't make sense.

Makes very little sense to trade Risto for "a couple picks"
Must be Ion's alt.

I think the Okposo dump spiraled into that. The root question is what would we be willing to give up to dump him? A first won't be nearly enough.

I think you contract values are low for the references production of Vesey (20+25 =45?) and Casey ( "alright" = 20+20 = 40sh?).
Vesy would be more like 6 or 7 at $5m-sh
Mitts would be 3 @ $3.75sh
Just a guess, IMO.

No alt for me.
Risto should garner McDavid and Draisaitl for sure.

That's ludacris, okposo has been playing very well. His contract at this point is not hampering the team whatsoever.
