So according to the Leafs blog, Kadri nixed a deal that would have sent him with Brown to Calgary for Brodie and Janikowski.
Considering they were willing to absorb an extra contract and send a good young player with him, I wonder if they would take a Bjugstad for Brodie deal straight up? That would at least give the Pens a good option for the 2nd pair LD. - MacPatty

Brodie plays on the right more. Besides I'd rather not open up a hole at 3C when, at least in my opinion, they have a 2nd pair LD in Pettersson. |

Bjugstad is one of the last people I'd move right now considering all struggles the Pens have went through to finally secure a top quality 3C.

I think he has played the right side out of necessity in Calgary. He is a lefty and might see an uptick in performance playing his natural side. Petterson could survive as a 2nd pair but not excel. I think it would be great for him to be sheltered for one more year to fine tune his game.
Not that I'm against Bjugstad but I think McCann could slot into that 3C role just as well. The Pens depth on the wings could facilitate him moving back to center. |

Brodie has said he prefers playing his off side. That’s not necessity, that’s preference.
“Brodie’s reaction to the promotion, which he was informed of early this summer, was one of excitement – not just because he prefers playing on his off-side, but because he needed something to change after two years of what he admits was sub-par play.”
He played poorly while playing on the left side which is why he was excited to switch to his preferred off-side. |

Exactly. If they want Rust + I'd trade for Brodie. Bjugstad is just a perfect fit for our 3rd line. |

" ... When we lost a lot of those key leaders and character guys from our team, there was a missing element. [Crosby] is one of the great leaders of the game but for him and the role he plays, we can't expect him to do the day-to-day stuff. Sid does the overall leadership, sets the tone, sets the pace. If there's a major issue, he's going to be involved to help somebody out. But we lost some of those guys who do those day-to-day things. If a teammate needs help, [Cullen] can do that and still play the game well for decades - if not centuries - to come", said GMJR while enjoying a roast quail at Altius Restaurant. |
