So why are we complaining about Tanev if mostly everyone would be fine bringing Hags back? (not directed at you, just in general) - YouMeAndDupuis9
His contract is significantly worse. |

Because it’s a terrible contract for a player we didn’t need. |

This. I actually like Tanev fine, but they're in a situation where they should be dumping contracts like his, not adding them. |

Yeah I agree. It’s not the player I dislike. It’s the contract and the fact that they didn’t need him. |

What would a comparable be to Tanev?
I have heard a Young Kunitz. If true than I think he would be a player they very much needed. Speed, grit...Honey Badger type stuff. |

Tanev is 27 and will be almost 28 when the season starts. That ain’t young. Kunitz was banking 50-60 points. Tanev is banking 30. He’s like a Chris Kunitz that’s not nearly as good as Chris Kunitz. |

And I can understand that it is all about points in this group, but the intangibles matter as well and this guy brings them.
I don’t like the term of this deal. Toooooo long. But how off is the $? |

To me the problem was that this teams bottom 6 was already fine. Tanev neither makes it better or worse, but the 3.5 mil could have gone to a guy like Gusev or to a top 6 player. He seems like another Bryan Rust. If they trade Rust plus a pick/prospect for an upgraded winger, I’d be ok with the Tanev contract. I’d be really shocked if Rust, ZAR, or Hornqvist aren’t traded before September |
|

|
In other news, Kevin Labanc resigned with the sharks for a 1 year-$1 mil contract after having like 55 pts last year. |

I get that they will be moving another contract and I also get that Tanev is more of a luxury add than a desperate need, but I hope that their next move addresses the D and not a top 6 forward. |

Good for them after spending $11.5M on Karlsson and losing Pavelski to Dallas for quite a low price ($7M). |

The problem is that they’re probably going to move Rust. Rust and Tanev very similar players and I’d rather have Rust based on contract. Had they not signed Tanev, they could have targeted a LD like Jordie Benn or something and actually fixed their D Corp. |

And Jordie Benn went for a couple years for $2M each. Would’ve been a nice get. |

Dumo-Letang
Pettersson-Schultz
Benn-Guddy
is a nice improvement. |

I have a feeling that was a hometown discount for Benn. Just a humble BC boy who came home. I know those guys all hang out in the summer: Benn, Weber, Hamhuis, etc. My sister docs their boats 😂 |

The PP will be fine with Galchenyuk...possibly even better than with Kessel. There were surely criticisms of Galchenyuk's game in MTL, but he was awesome on the PP. He's got so much more to work with in PIT! I think he will have a career year and many more to come in PIT. This was a great trade for the Pens. |

We won’t trade Johnson. We won’t get Gusev. We’ll trade Rust for a 4th round pick and a defensive prospect that projects as a bottom pairing blue liner if he hits his ceiling.
There. Expectations tempered. - Victoro311

Hope the league takes a look at this and makes sure there wasn't any wink, wink, nudge, nudge, get you back next year in this deal

He was a little screwed because his only other option was offer sheet because he wasn't arbitration eligible. |

If he re-ups on Jan 1 for 4 years 20 million or whatever, you know what was up..... |
