Or is it that he's a bnottom 6 forward that does not make a difference? Apples and oranges. No fans get upset at plugs who leave.,
- RogerRoeper

I picked Martin, only because he left for the Leafs. You don't like that example? OK, then try Kyle Okposo. He was a Top 6 forward, not a "plug". He left for Buffalo, because he got a better offer from the Sabres than what the Islanders offered. No hard feelings whatsoever from Islander fans. End of story....... or are you going to say, yeah, but Okposo is a winger, not a center...

Nobody likes him over on his own thread and he’s pretty entertaining even though it’s not intentional. I vote to have him stay. Not sure if it’s because I feel bad for him or he’s so damn dumb he’s funny?
- Cptmjl

Yeah, when one of your fellow posters goes out of his way to post that fact on our board, I'd say that's a sign that you're not well-liked.

Yep. Another good example. Matt Moulson. There’s another one for you. Standing ovation when he came back.

Moulson was traded as part of the deal for Vanek. Don't make this guy's work any easier, cpt!

Isn't it funny how the Matt Martin trade saves the Leafs and ends any chance of getting Marner?

Sounds about right, although tbh I wasn't posting here back then..........only lurked occasionally.

Edit: BTW, Moulson is an unsigned UFA, if you're interested.

Yeah, they really helped us out there. If I remember correctly Garth was trying to re-sign him and the Flyers threw money at him. That was very nice of them.

Yep. Best moves or non moves Snow ever made were ones he was forced to make. Dodged a bullet there.

I think the same can be said of Okposo, Nielsen, Vanek and Streit. We dodged few bullets in the mid- and long term. Short term it probably created some gaps. Hard to say if I would prefer Okposo over Ladd. Not sure if we ever gave Okposo anywhere near what the Sabres offered.

So Matt Martin also left the Islanders for Toronto as a free agent, and what happened? He was cheered when he returned to the Island. Why? Because he left for a much better contract than the Islanders offered him, so Islander fans understood completely.

But when Pajama Boy left, he took less money than the Islanders offered him which is a not-too-subtle phukk you to the Islander fanbase, in effect saying "you and your support over the years means nothing to me. I'd rather take less money just to leave town."

I don't really think it could be any more obvious. Good luck with him.

- JohnScammo

Actually this is not true... he was offered the same contract he eventually got from the Leafs but his agent told him he would get more than 2.5 from Tampa or another team. He could not get more and by the time he got back to Snow they had signed Chimera.

Also not true.. sorry to pick on you. According to the Forbes article I posted earlier he ended up getting about $20 mill more over the legnth of the contract b/c of the Bonus $ tax rate in Canada. It's only taxed at 15 ish % which is why that contract was all up front Bonus $ and then basically league minimum for 7 years.. ish. It also protects PJ boy from lock out.

It's been a few years already, but this story does not sound familiar at all. I thought I remembered reading that Snow had made a much lower offer, somewhere between $1.5 and 2 million per, and wouldn't budge. I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying that I have no memory of your version.

I'll applaud him if I'm at that game. Unfortunately I think Lenher will be pissed and probably shut out the Isles.

I actually tried to wade through some of that Forbes article you posted, but I did not scrutinize it enough to reach the conclusion you did. I just remember reading at the time that the Islanders offered him roughly the same dollars per season that the Leafs offered ($11 MM), but over 8 years, not 7.
