and we all agree that LE was a mistake, you just wanna keep beating that dead horse?
- Nucker101

He's not the only mistake, but he's the most crippling. I'm not going to praise his drafting when i don't think his record is all that impressive once you consider the squandered picks.

It's a really big year for Benning, this is year 6. Considering how he's traded more future draft capital and tied up more future cap space he'd damn well better make the playoffs by the next 2 seasons, this year with a healthy roster.

I don't want people to be so blinded by the top 7 drafting nearly every year and say we have to keep him because of his picks.

JB was not alone on the retool & cannot all be put on him. Thats is looking for a scape goat.

Well he is the current general manager. We've blamed it on FA, Linden, Gillis, Desjardins, the players. His (frank)ing job is to build the team. If he can't convince his own boss of a move, how the (frank) is he gonna convince his rival's boss?

It's not a disadvantage to have Mcdavid, Dahlin, Hughes, Hischier etc available with your pick.

It is a disadvantage if you tie up future assets and cap space to finish just ahead of that selection, as well as selections in subsequent rounds.

Will Benning's defenders blame Benning as much as they've blamed Gillis when FA hires the next yes man?

When Benning gets fired he probably earned it. The next GM won’t get the Bowman credit taking advantage of what he inherited.

I’ll take EP over Hischier any day. The others also if they fell to us. When a lottery win is a guarantee I’d pick them 1st.

I think Gillis wanted to start selling it off when "reportedly" FA hired Tortorella. One season out the playoffs, cya. Gillis might have been greasy, but he was smart.

He did increase spending on scouting, after a few years of earning early in FA's tenure.

Instead of a quick turnaround which is common in sports we've had this long drawn out affair which began by stating the exact opposite.

I think Benning wanted to blow it up but he wanted the job more. Idk how Gillis could sell off all of his NTC & NMC’s he signed.

Good news is TL is gone & JB has 1 less boss in his way.

Good thing Holland can take credit for turning around the Oilers soon. After all he has never made any critical mistakes or retools on the fly.

If you were building a house would you squander materials while up against your budget?

We got very fortunate that EP fell to us. Hischier still looks pretty damned good though.

Maybe imagine having just one of the names above your draft pick on the team in one of those bottom out years, with possibly another Woo or 2 in the system.

It's a criticism of Benning's tenure, always sacrificing future stock for current standing. It happened again this year at the draft.

I must say though i am pissed at not moving up to 5th to get Seider before picked or 7th before Broberg. That Holland & Yzerman are crafty dudes.

JB is a lame duck for sure now...

Nope. I just call my Sikh buddy & get some contacts for some labour that works for peanuts.

Yup real fortunate EP fell to us. I was hoping the same happened when McDavid was drafted. At least we gut lucky once.

JTM hasn’t played a game yet to make that call. Anyone willing to bet the farm its a failure?

Still in the end this season will decide JB’s fate one way or another. Problem is FA remains.
