Ya, losing 2 backups to the waiver wire for nothing and dealing 2 firsts +++ for Muzzin and a cap dump of a dinosaur is GM Of The Year work right there. I will say the Barrie deal was fantastic (until Barrie leaves as a UFA) - Brandon Smillie

I would say it's not embarrassing as they did sign someone to an offer sheet but we all have our opinions. - Brandon Smillie
Yeah a girl used your GM to make her boyfriend jealous.
Either you recognize that as embarrassing or you acknowledge your own stupidity.

Being that he's approached Point and Aho (and apparently preparing to approach Marner or Laine) I think Bergevin is a man on a mission. Hopefully it's not Mission: Impossible - Brandon Smillie

They made conf final that year though. It was a crazy idea hiring a full first line from FA but it almost worked |

Unfortunately they probably wouldn't sign it, like Point. How many "thanks, but no thanks" do you receive before it gets a tad embarrassing for the management? - walshyleafsfan

I am under the opinion Mr. Smillie does not do much research prior to making his opinions known...please look at the Leafs depth vs the Habs depths prior to making statements they do not know how to draft...I think you need to go watch a few more Rocket games vs the Marlies... |

I see the Habs writers and fans are still pushing their same propaganda as if their poor offer wasn’t laughable.
Why was the cheap owner not signing him to a deal to start with? As Dundon said, it’s their job to get the best deal for the team. Plus he wasn’t worried about an offer sheet because he would match it. Heck we traded de Haan to save the cap space in case we got an offer sheet. Then this cheap sheet came through and our biggest regret is trading CdH.
Gofundme page? LOL. I think TopGolf makes plenty of money. Dundon is the poorest billionaire in history according to the Habs.
Enjoy big fish hunting especially if none end up on the boat. |

Ask your blogger. Bergevin did something everyone's been begging for since the last OS. It didn't work, oh well. |

Super bergevin can't make another offer sheet until the canes officially match the aho sheet.
Not that I'm concerned marner would ever leave the leafs anyway he wants to win |

There is a lot to troll the Habs with, especially this offseason, but if your argument is Marner wants to stay with the Leafs due to winning you're trolling yourself and don't even know it |

"They would likely utilize the picks to make trades. Currently with their cap situation they are pretty handcuffed when it comes to salary, and not those Hurricane reporter fuzzy cuffs either, real "I Screwed Up My Cap" handcuffs. "
how would the Leafs be handcuffed if Marner leaves? By letting him go, they would literally have 12-13 million in cap space and 4 first rounders, with another good chunk of players on expiring contracts (4.5 mil from Ceci, etc)
Leafs would be handcuffed with 20 million in space and 4 first rounders next summer. The horror!
The only handcuff scenario happens only if Marner does, sign. - Buggy166
This is how I read what he wrote. I didn't think he meant to imply in the future. |

Interesting article.
If the Habs were to OS Marner in a serious manner this time by going into the 4 - 1st territory while the OS with Aho is still open, would be kinda funny if the Canes changed course and took the compensation (they wouldn't).
Marner at say $12m and Aho at $8.5m. According to CapFriendly, Habs would need to make some rather significant changes to the roster to trim $13m in Cap Space, would need to move about $5m immediately to be within the 10% coverage allowed during the summer, and then not have any young blood coming from draft picks for probably 8 years until that 6th year pick matures for 2+ years.
Would those 2 put them over the top when considering who they would need to move out?
Doubtful. That is the way to screw them...but given the rather weak return for Carolina they would be idiots to do so.
