Darcy, er Jason Botterill playing hard ball I see.

Let’s see how this plays out for him.

He extended the qualifying offer. It’s their first eligibility to go for arbitration why wouldn’t they.

He will likely get an offer of 2 years for 1.25M per. If Botts sees him in the AHL, then he can walk away from the offer. Or he can still try to get a deal done before the arbitration date.

Elie is the least of my personal worries.

I'm more focused on a right winger, and potentially a second line center.

I still feel like Botts is okay with rolling Casey and ERod as a 2a/2b option.

- thatsapickle

Any person that has a plan that has Erod at 2nd line center is a bad one, and that person deserves to be kicked in the face.

Hopefully he trades Casey before he blows up like Chris Farley.

It opens the buout window for us again. Throw Sobotka out of it

I feel like that decision will haunt him.

I get that the Okposo buyout is insane and not cost effective, but Sobotka could have been.

If he has a deal where Sobotka is going overseas, then fine. Take whatever savings you get from it and use it to help the team.

Botterill seems to be wise with money, but I won't say he's smart yet. He has a lot to prove. Unload Okposo, and I'll be impressed.

- thatsapickle

It took a first rounder to move one year of Marleau, we still have 4 more years of KO imo that contract is not going anywhere for at least 3 years, it’s unmovable unless we are giving up a very solid piece which seems counterproductive

I'm not saying it's the best plan, but without being a fly on the wall or telepathic I can't know what the thoughts of Botterill or Krueger are.

You would have to think that with the owners saying that it's time to win, and the glaring needs on the team, there should be something in the works.

Too many days before the season, and too many UFAs still out there. I doubt Risto will be traded before anyone knows where Gardiner goes and the cost. Trading for a forward now, is going to be tough without knowing what teams are truly interested in Risto.

I'd like to think the Ducks would have some interest. Risto is a decent contract value, and we could try to get Rakell (pipe dream), or Henrique.

Maybe Risto can be that piece?

Some GM has to think that he's good, and will add the albatross of Okposo. Then try to flip him to Seattle or the sun.

I would have dumped both Okposo and Sobotka but what do I know.
- SABRES 89

What would be your plan to move KO, serious question, 31 wasn’t getting it done imo.

We then risk trading Risto for pennies on the dollar, bad idea imo, think we are stuck with him until at least the next expansion draft sadly.

Montreal made it too easy on the Canes.

If Montreal is going after Marner, they are going to have to go above and beyond.

- thatsapickle

right now the habs can't do an offer sheet yet, until canes officially match

not sure on the rules, but say we offer sheet marner for 1 year 14 mil
give up the 4 picks if the leafs don't match

someone else offer sheets him from us 12 months later , we get the 4 picks back, hopefully from a team worse then us

just spitballing

Not necessarily.

Maybe it's a bigger deal.

Anaheim has an internal cap. We can ship some younger pieces.

Risto - Okposo - Nylander/Thompson

For

Henrique, Kase/Kossila, +

I dont know. The ducks get some relief with the Kesler injury this year, so they could take the KO contract.

One more year with Okposo. He either gives up and goes on LTIR or they buy him out. That's my guess

Just went on Cap Friendly. I didn't realize we had 9 roster UFA's (so far) heading into next season.

This just supports the notion that Botts's is setting the team for massive change next year, not this year. We will have an absolute ton of open cap space next year to fundamentally change the direction of the team. I think there will be some tweaks around the edges - eg: Oloffson and one of Thompson/Nylander making the team - but that's about it. Maybe a longer shot guy like Smith or Lazar making the team with a vet or two moving to Rochester (Hunwick/WIlson/Sobotka being prime candidates).

This will be the development year for Krueger as well. I think Botts/Pegula's are OK with progress with the youngin's and an 82 - 85 point season with next year being the "all in" year.

That's my $0.25.

What’s the point? $14M for a year of Marner when he probably isn’t enough to make us cup champs, and then pray some other guy comes along and offer sheets us back?!!

There’s nothing in that proposal that’s worthwhile for this club under its present circumstances.

And it actually could turn out to be a brilliant strategy because everyone knows that UFA's tend to have "career years" heading into free agency. All 9 of these clowns are playing for their next team and contract. Maybe they'll actually play well? Now, if it is a complete failure and we are out of it by January, you are going to see a dumping of players of epic proportions IMO. Then guys like Borgen, Asplund etc will get called up because they are the future - not Wilson or Bogo.

It will be a beautiful thing when Scandella Bogo Hundwuck sobotka sheary are all off this roster.

Bogo i would be 50 / 50 on if he takes a pay cut to like 1 mill.

Just a shade over the vet minimum. But it's a one way deal so he gets the money in the AHL

honestly I pray he signs an 8 year deal later

but hypothetically if we are suppose to be better, and we lose marner in 12 months

the 4 draft picks would be better then ours

If Paul Hamilton is to be believed, we've never seen a healthy Bogo.

If, and it's a HUGE/YUUGE if, he comes back at 100%, I think he may be worth something. It may be a bag of pucks, but it's better than nothing.

All options should be considered, and if we can see these options, one would have to believe that they do as well.
