Pending a significant trade or two, I'm not expecting much improvement. Something like 10-12 more points, so around 85. Alot of that I suspect will be improved team play under Ralph. They are still goal-scoring-challenged as presently constructed, but I can see better defensive/system play helping to win or tie those 1 goal games they lost last year.
'20-21 is the turnaround I hope since they will be flush with Cap space and rid of nearly all the bad contracts.

Next year is definitely the year we can spend and make a huge push. This team can surprise though this year but we need a lot of things to fall into place.

Is this supposed to mean that Lou Lamoriello and the Isles are going to make a significant move (trade/offer sheet) ?

If this is true ..... I don’t hate it. Mid to late 1st round picks I think are okay to give up.

If you are the Sabres and potentially giving up 4 top 10 picks. Then you can’t do it

Anyone else find it odd that the Sabres have 4 guys going to arbitration?

Only 40 nhl players filed for arbitration.

10% on the league playbfornthe sabres.

Any reasons?

Nobody will like reading it, but I believe it's always been about next offseason and 2020-2021 as the start of actually being a good team.
- kingcong39

Agreed.
I guess they just need to get through this upcoming season.
Use it as a season to get the collective mindset of the team right and the key pieces to take a big step forward in their respective develipment

It’s not a big deal ..... botts qualifies them and doesn’t lose them for free.

Then they figure out a contract before the arbitration date.

No harm done.

Only one I can think of is Botts is negotiating tough, likely stick9ng to the QO as the limit.
IDK though, and not really worried about those slugs.
If he doesn't get what he wants, then move on from 80% of them.

Besides the Sabres having a lot of poopty players who don't deserve a negotiated raise I have no idea.

Bottcoin is skyrocketing

Or

Even the bottom players on one of the worst teams in the league are saying F you pay me more to play for the Buffalo Sabres

Or

It just worked out that way:

We need to position ourselves well. Whether it’s post season or not, we need to show strides of relevancy so that way our perception goes up league wide. Whether it’s through trades or FA, players need to see us taking the next step.

I get that part. Jbotts doesn't want to lose them for free.

Why doesn't every gm feel that way about their players?

Seems odd that we have 4 guys

Honestly apart from Elie, I can definitely see the reasoning behind McCabe, Ullmark, and Erod going for arbitration. They are all worth more then their QO and it’s the only bargaining chip they have.

80% would be difficult.

4 guys are not divisible in 20% increments?

80% of their body parts?
Erods legs with mccabes toughness?
Like a robot?

Is bits that much cheaper? Or tougher of a negotiator?

That's a good point flaccoville, but are we tarnishing the sabres' name even more, by being tough negotiators?

No. This is the business side of hockey and players understand this now.

To me, this signifies that all these players remain available to the market and Botts wants to maximize the ability to use them as chips by preserving the buyers’ ability to set their next contract.

You’re probably correct. Significant progression next year (say +15 points) but no playoffs followed by playoffs in 20/21. The teams in our division aren’t making it any easier on us either

Or ..... it buys you more time to sign those qualifying offer players and keeps the cap space open for the time being.

For example if he does swing a decent size trade .... he has the cap space to handle it. If you sign all the QO players ..... it would be tougher to fit a decent size trade without going over
