Dorion will offer two unprotected firsts.....and Rutherford will say "hold on, isn't that Bobby Ryan I see on your roster? Hmmm" - cnatch
Sens might be the only team dumb enough to take JJ. |

50/50 chance seems high. How many teams can there possibly be lining up to take that contract? If it were a year or two, yeah maybe. But IIRC there's 4 seasons left, you'd have to add quite a bit too sweeten that deal.
Or maybe Edmonton wants him |

I’ll accept no less than 3 first round draft picks, future considerations and cash for JJ
Basically the Gretzky Trade.... |

Marty McSorely was the key to that trade. I miss those days of starting arguments of who was better. Gretzky or Mario? You couldn't go wrong either way. But fans used to get all fired up about it. 😂 |

Here's what I really hate about this...
I had basically mentally reserved myself to the idea he's here for at least another season. It's going to suck if this rumor doesn't come to fruition.
Looking at Anaheim, they need dmen. Not sure why they'd want JJ, but do what you can, JR. - Rinosaur
Anaheim and especially LA are in great positions to tank and start a long rebuild. JJ can help with that!
That's seriously about the only type of team I'd see interested in him. LA is in cap hell right now so JJ and a high pick or prospect might make sense I they're at point where they want to raise the white flag on their core. Since they bought out, Phaneuf, not sure they are though. |

And right after I write that I see this in my timeline which means LA isn't taking a bad contract, and forget about Puljujarvi:
From Bernstein on TFP: LA have recently kicked tires on Edmonton RW Jesse Puljujarvi.
But apparently cost of doing business is taking on Milan Lucic contract, something LA not inclined to do at this time |

I mean, he even copied Guile saying go to the 9 minute mark. At least RW using it for his blog means everyone will catch it. |

I would do it for 50% retained and this years first in a heartbeat. The penguins are primed to fall of a cliff and finish in the basement this year. Montreal is very young and still 2 or 3 years away. That high draft pick would fit in nicely. |

The thing I alway point out, is aside from the games he missed argument, The games he did play he could barely stand, couldn’t practice, and still put up the same PPG
That’s the incredible part of it. He wasn’t just injured in the games he missed, he was injured in the majority of games he played

That gets JJ off the team which is nice, but even I they sign a minimum salary player to replace him, they only save about 900k. They could bury him in the minors and save 275k. So it doesn't really solve the cap problem, helps less than a buyout really, and we lost a 1st. |

I was a Gretzky guy myself but in terms of God given natural ability to play hockey, it's Bobby Orr and Mario. Gretzky had the elite hockey sense and brain. But Mario just made everything seem so easy. We'll never see another player like him that's for sure. |

All those historical stats are so flawed... like, Phil Esposito scored 76 goals in 78 games one year. Phil Esposito couldn't (frank)ing skate. |

They are not going to give up a first and retain 50%. That would only save them 1.6 million in cap space. The Canes got a first from the leafs because they absorbed then entire 6 million cap hit, plus agreed to buy Marleau out and pay the entire 4.5 million owed.
They might as well buy him out if they are going to do that, it will save them more in cap space. |

True. I'm just seeing it from Montreal's perspective. Maybe they retain less or other players/prospects are included to tweak the deal. But the first pick is what I'd be after. |

As much as I would like to see JJ go I am afraid of what Rutherford would have to give up to make it happen - and it would be a lot.
The type of team that would take on his contract is a "dumpster team" - a team that needs to take on contracts to make the salary floor. This used to be Arizona, although that is no longer the case. Still, he would be taking a roster spot on said team for a long time.
This is probably fake news to tease Pens fans... |

There's probably a way to make a deal like that happen. From a Pens perspective, most of us would be willing to send the first, it just has to work out significantly better than a buyout. The extra years on the buyout don't matter as much to us because we know our window is limited. |

Hate having teams trade a player just for the other team to buy him out. Sounds like the nba. If the canes whine about paying Aho, why pay Marleau at all? Ridiculous

If I'm Aho I dont sign with Canes after that move. Shows they aren't committed to building a team. |

Not sure that is a fair assessment. They have the cap space. It is for only one year. The owner was willing to spend 4.5 million to get a first round pick. I think it shows he is at least committed to improving the team in the future. |

LA has zero need for JJ. They have a ton of Lefty dmen. They are gonna give quite a few kids a shot at the NHL this year as well. JJ is to much a liability. And one LA doesnt need. |
