Probably why he wanted Zucker for Kessel straight up
- RoloTahmasee

Zucker certainly would have fit the mould. But you know what you get with Zucker, and it’s great stuff for sure.
But Galchenyuk is a more interesting player to me, he’s never played with anyone close to what Malkin is. All he has to do in Pittsburgh is what he was born to do, score goals. He’s on a contract year, being given an opportunity with the 101st best player in NHL history. The hockey gods have bestowed an impossibly rare opportunity upon him.

Could be the year Crosby and Malkin can finally compete with each other with equal lines.

They have to move someone to sign Pettersson, Blueg, and ZAR. they only have 1.5ish mil left for those 3 per capfriendly.

Would you be able to accept it if JR pulled off JJ being that player? Or would that give you a stroke?

That sucks too because I’d rather have Rust than Hornqvist, Bjugstad, Or Tanev. Overpaid on dollar and term for Tanev to replace a guy who’s better than him that we have to move out to change the culture to... speed and youth? But... Rust is speed and youth. He’s exactly the player they should be using to build a speed team.
- j.boyd919

I will nitpick and disagree on Bjugstad. Even before Tanev we were possibly looking at Rust on the 4th line. I personally don’t care for McCann as 3C and I don’t want Chucky there either. Bjugstad is Staal-lite. He was solid enough, he’s a righty, he’s big, his positioning is good, he plays special teams. and every once in a while man does he let it rip. I think he’s got real value to us moving forward

Tanev looks like an overpay but I’m interested to see his deployment. Hopefully he continues to crush MFs and draw lots of penalties. Over the last 2 years he’s a 10-11% shooter, he shoots somewhat often per 60, he doesn’t need PP time, he doesn’t take a lot of penalties, he’s scored at a 27 point pace the last 2 years. I think his QoT will be somewhat similar in Pitt and I think it’s possible that his ceiling may be higher than 30 points

I will miss Rust. It’s too bad it had to end this way but I think we’re going to be ok and I’d rather see him thrive out west instead of playing on our 4th line. I would love to see him sent to Edmonton to get a shot at playing a pure speed game with McDavid lol

I think if he moved JJ out, that would be great for the Pens on ice product. Giving them 3 mil of cap relief would be amazing.

Hell Im still hoping for Rust+JJ+1st for Zucker trade.

That would kick ass but that’s also highly unlikely. I also get the feeling that rutherford and Sullivan legitimately like Johnson.

I mean what's not to love? He has amazing passing skills and passes it right to the other team. He dishes out hits (which leaves him out of position to make a play). He even scores goals....mostly for the other team (due to poor positioning).

We really missed out on Benn / Panik but I think Panik will do well in Washington and Benn gets to go home. Happy for those guys

Where does Rust go for a D? Rust, JJ, and a pick for Connauton? Or for a slightly abused Forsling?

I just hope whoever it is we just shelter them until we upgrade. Play Letang 26 minutes, play Dumo 24, play Petts and Schultz 23, play Gudbranson 16, and play X 8 minutes. WE CAN SURVIVE FOR 8 JMFJ MINUTES

I think we may see a few more names come off this list tomorrow. Who knows? We may not be done. Ferland and Gardiner (both who previously were linked to us) are still available/on your list. Heck at this point I wouldn't even mind signing Phaneuf to a 1-2 year deal if it means trade JJ

Bennett to the Yotes? My roommates heart will melt lol

So does Chicago keep Crow and Lehner? They want to keep Perlini and he’s due for a raise. Someone has to go. Surprising development as a couple teams might’ve taken on Crawford for cheap but some have gone to other options. Things are still very spicy 🌶 (not salty, glad that discussion ended hours ago)

Phaneuf sucks just as bad as JJ. There are better options.

Justin Faulk?
- sammy87

He’s a RHD and would cost a lot more. I could see a swap of JS+ for Faulk. I just don’t know what Carolina is going through right now. That offer sheet has a lot of money that would need to be paid out immediately. I think they’re reeling rn

It’s like a candle and hockey players are the candle warmers

I’m ok with the melting, it’s when one of her beloved players gets dealt and she cries that it becomes a bother.. or when she says Cam Ward blew it the night before but really the defensemen were really non-existent and really you feel bad for Ward because most goalies aren’t making those saves either

The team lacks defense so he signed a good defensive player. I like it. Trying to keep playing a speed game isn’t going to work in the coming later years of Crosby and Malkins career. Crosby still has the strength and smarts to be elite and Malkin still has the raw skill, size and strength to be elite. however it’s visibly noticeable that they have lost a step. Time to tighten things up.

I think the quote of the day has to go to this guy on Twitter.. Aho chose to sign that offer sheet. He didn’t have to. If the team were more willing to give him fair value then he might’ve just negotiated more with them and they wouldn’t be staring at this huge signing bonus

This is why I enjoy hockey discussion platforms. Getting outside perspectives that broaden your own - as opposed to someone looking at one thing and choosing it as gospel and forgetting everything else

Based off what I just read I think Sakic really blew the Barrie trade. How did he not get more?

Yeah I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing here cus it looks like the Leafs took Colorado to town and I felt like the Avs were having a good offseason up until this point.
