Okay... can you explain to me the relevance/significance of Aho signing it?

If he doesnt sign does that mean Carolina doesnt even have to match?

- Guile

Correct. You basically have to assume they had already discussed it

No wonder it's an unspoken rule to not offer sheet. Super big Richard move

MTL didnt have much choice but to offer sheet. They cleared cap and lost on Duchene. Theres only so many good players to go around. Good thing the league is expanding!

As far as JR and the Pens....Im not emotionally attached to sports at this point so its for pure enjoyment and checking out and having a few beers. The weather is too good to watch hockey a lot of hockey in May and June anyway so if the Pens lose in the playoffs I'm not too concerned.

The AVs are really fun to watch, the Pens not so much any more.

But hey, FLA lost out on Panaria.....They should make a pitch for Malkin!

😂 right? Not only that but then there’s the fear of when it comes back around to you. I’m surprised Meier didn’t negotiate to sign one but also not surprised. I’m reality most of these guys don’t want to move

Waddell: I know my summer just got better because I'm not going to spend all summer working on a contract now.

FLA already has tons of offense. I think they’re officially back in the playoff discussion

You're one of those guys then....

Guentzel Crosby 9 million
Kessel Malkin 900k
900k 900k 900k
900k 900k 900k

Letang Dumo
Gardiner 900k
900k 900k

Murray
900k

Thats about 75 million

Every team has a bad contract, ever team has an overpaid guy or 2. This doesn't make us any less competitive than any other team

Just because you don't recognize the name, doesn't mean you have any idea what he brings to the table

Too many guys wanting to build rosters like fantasy teams instead of hockey teams

I don't think anyone is advocating for Sid to have a 9 million dollar winger with him.

The only players guys seem to want are “brand names”

Kevin Hayes got 7 million

Kevin F’n Hayes. Let that sink in.

Who was a realistic option with a brand name and at what price tag?

I get the sentiment of not being top heavy. Believe me, I do. But no one is after a player for "the brand name". People want good players on their teams. It just so happens, usually good players do well, and get a "brand name". And Hayes getting 7 Million is because GMs aren't infallible, and make mistakes too. A mistake every GM seems to be making rn is forgetting that lockouts can happen.

TBH does any club build a team via free agency? Looking back at the cup teams of the last 5 years..STL, Caps, Pens Hawks, Kings.....Any of them do much in FA? Seems like maybe add a piece or 2 but it was mostly from trades and internal development....No?

I agree

Every team has a bad contract and an overpay or 2

The thought that the sky is falling because we signed Brandon Tanev and missed out on a bunch of other guys their own teams didn’t resign is laughable

They all had contributions through free agency, especially the Hawks who got Hossa but you’re right - teams aren’t built in FA. FA is about filling holes drafting didn’t when you feel the timing is about right. Philly clearly wasn’t sold at their centers going into next season so they went big.

Someone mentioned NYR earlier and how they’re “doing it right” but in reality the reason why guys want to play there is the city. Panarin wanted a big Russian community where his GFs career could thrive. If you take away the city then Miller, Hayes, Fox, Trouba, and Panarin are all elsewhere

Btw Simmonds in NJD is a huge win for Shero. He did this with Jagr years ago. If you’re in the playoff picture and it pans out then you’re good, if he needs a “fresh start” then you sell him as a rental and get draft picks. Plus he keeps his cap position open for the next season

A 1 year deal on a very hit or miss player when your team has loads of cap space... yeah, rarely can pan out bad overall.

No no no! All wrong!

The sky was falling because we were trading Phil and making our team worse then it was last year (when it ain’t, not yet)

With the JJ signing Grim Rutherford is no longer invited to Hannukuh and with the Tanev signing he is being moved to the Thanksgiving kids table WITH NO DESSERT 🧁

He’ll get some PP time, he’s physical, and he just might fit in or at least protect the kids a bit. If he retains salary at the deadline I could see him getting a third and a prospect

Strongly considering paying a former navy seal sniper 3.5 thousand dollars to put a 50 cal hole in Rutherford’s stupid head so he can’t f(uck) up this team any more! He’s such a joke. This team did not need another 4th liner. He trades Kessel for a lazy good for nothing slacker and now he wastes the cap space on this loser. Words cannot describe my hatred of old Jim right now,

I don't think the sky is falling because that deal in a vacuum isn't terrible. It's just awful knowing our GM wants to hand out deals like these on a yearly basis.

Madden and Bouque were talking about Tanev as a possible 3C. Does he play there? I liked the job Bjugstad did there, but if someone else could take 3C, (maybe McCann gets another shot), I'd like to give Bjugstad another look as a top 6 RW.
