So we could have just signed Donskoi...wow...
Rust/Johnson trade for a D upgrade must be imminent, right? ....right?? - YouMeAndDupuis9
That'd be a logical move. Logical moves have not been occurring recently. |

For 6 years. Oof |

Im sitting at my desk just laughing to myself. How the frank do you give a guy 6 years for an at best, 3rd line role, likely 4th line role... and you give him $3.5M a year? I mean the guy has never scored 15 goals in a season and hasnt gotten over 20 points in a season until this past season when he got 29.
Holy frank. This is the last few years of Rutherford in Carolina. The guy is just losing his mind. You cannot reasonably tell me another team was bidding anywhere near that much for a 6 year term. Tanev's agent must be laughing his head off right now. |

There's gotta be more action coming if he's signing Tanev for 3.5 a years...right? |
|
|
|
I think someone needs to wheel Rutherford back to the Alzheimer's ward...my God, he's dismantling this team faster than I could've imagined! Everyone with a pair of functioning eyes has seen that the teams need is D, and ridding themselves of JJ...so let's trade away a PPG player for 1 year of an underachiever and a middling prospect, and then double down on a 6 year deal with a borderline 3rd wing... |
|
|
|
Tanev w/ Lowry, Copp - 58.27 CF%
Tanev w/ Lowry - 52.74 CF%
Tanev w/o Lowry, Copp - 38.08 CF%
Tanev w/o Lowry - 41.49 CF%
2-3 year deal, fine, but 6 🥺 |

Time to take the keys away from gramps. I've been supportive, but damn 6 years on 3rd/4th liner is absurd with a stagnant cap. |

We get so caught up in these charts sometimes. Look at what was being said right after these guys were signed/traded and we looked at their charts...
Hunwick wasn't a bad signing because he at least contributed positively in transition...
Goc didn't score much but had great metrics..
Winnik again didn't score much but was a possession 'monster'...
Riley Sheahan didnt score much but had some decent advanced metrics..
Tanner Pearson had some really promising metrics...
they all sucked...
so in regards to Tanev, there is a place for role players....even if the charts aren't the best... its just too high of an AAV.

It’s incredibly frustrating to see Donskoi go for the exact same dollar amount. |

6x3.5 is a horrendous contract, there is no upside to this. We have no room left and have to make yet another move. I'm dumbfounded. Jim has really pooched us the 3 days.

We all saw the draft inside peak video...there's a whole lot of people with input on these decisions... it very likely could be Sullivan or Guerin really pushing for Tanev....hell it could even be Ventura.... but there has to be a consensus on $ amount they wont go over, you know?

I actually would have considered free agency a success if we had picked up Donskoi for $3.5 mil. |

While I agree with you...part of me has to realize that we need to acquire players who fit a specific need or niche.
I don't really know that Donskoi was a "need"...just a good player.
And while I think Tanev fits the mold of what we need....part of the problem is that we have no idea what this team is going to look like. Theres been so much roster overhaul and every friggin forward plays 3 positions and on any line. |

One of Johnson, Rust, Gudbranson has to go. We still need to sign a few guys and dont have a ton of money left now.
All we need now is Cullen to resign. |

Tanev does not fit this team better than a Donskoi. Donskoi literally embodies the direction Rutherford said he wanted to take this team in like a week ago. Tanev fits the bill of the identity-less bland Penguins that we’ve become. |

I'm not advocating the signing but, 3rd most hits NHL, 81 blocked shots 3rd highest for a forward. I see why they wanted him. 3 too many years imo. |
