Heard Waddell's press conference. He sounded like he was gonna have a coronary. Surprisingly, he disclosed (in response to a question about Dundon's take on the offer sheet) that he hadn't had a chance to speak with him because he was on a golf course in Aspen and he would speak with him later. You would think, on one of the most important hockey-business days of the year, the owner would be available.

He says the Canes would listen to a trade offer.

Thing is the Canes are saying they'll match an offer sheet, which means they're likely turning down four 1st round picks, so any trade offer would have to be more than that.

Basically it's "Blow us away with a huge offer, or we'll just sign him.

- BINGO!

Offer sheet compensation would be a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd...is that enough for Aho?

What I see is it's not the cap hit that is holding Carolina over the bench, it's the signing bonus amount.

Carolina only has two choices...1) Match the offer sheet or 2) Work out a trade which would have to involve at least 2 big pieces (Domi and a top prospect), otherwise Carolina loses their top player for garbage pieces.

LOL, like Dundon even blinked He paid Aho with his Cigar lighting cash and that contract in Quebec would be 40% less as NC is a flat tax state $5 or $5m is the same rate and like in Duchene's case weather and taxes matter NOW...We'll see how Bergevin like OS when Drouin & Kotkaniemi are up for RFA in the next 2 YRS...Tom Dundon has a reputation for One-upsman-ship pay back so can't wait for the next season signing day.

Here is a rough breakdown of personal income tax rates by province if a player was making 10 million Canadian or 6.8 million US;
Note this includes provincial and federal tax
BC – 49.5 %
Alberta – 47 %
Manitoba – 50 %
Ontario – 53 %
Quebec – 53%
I didn’t look up what each US state is taxed at, but the top US federal tax rate is 37 % that all players would pay as a minimum plus the state tax where applicable NC is 5.25%
