I don't believed they are issued without pretty much knowing the play is going to sign.

The breakdown is $21m over next 12 months and that he will be UFA when it's over. Even if they match, it is best for Aho. He will sign that, who knows if they match. They should match and then trade him, but we will see.

Yeah, he wanted their proprietary tech. Something about an app, or analytics or something. The point is, if you can afford to sink an entire league to get your hands on some data, he can pay a signing bonus

I don't see why Montreal would...unless he agreed to sign for less.

The only thing I can think of is Carolina trades him to someone else for better compensation before the window that they have to match closes. Then "someone else" is on the match or get compensation hook.
