If the Leafs walk from Ceci and move Brown you'll looking at 17 million in cap.

Sorry, aren't the Leafs in "Cap Hell"?

Hopefully they'll use that cap space to have 1, just 1 RHD in the lineup

Zeitsev played well in the playoffs... has ceci ever played well for a stretch?
- gamerdoc

What's your definition of well? He was better than he was for 2 previous year but still missing his man in the defensive zone and couldn't make a pass without going for icing.

Yeah if he had a year left on his contract I’d roll the dice on him, but given the 5 years remaining, a relatively strong playoff performance wouldn’t be enough for me to pass up an opportunity to move him if the asking price is taking a contract-less Ceci and giving up Brown.

Agreed
The leafs screwed up their best chance to win a cup this year.

But ya of course, hate them all you want. Its your right.
I have no interest in using any energy doing that.

- Fakepartofme

Get outta here with this was their best shot a cup. last time I checked the Leafs still have two of the best centres in hockey, one of the best dmen in hockey, a very good goalie, a top 10 winger in hockey and a supporting cast that is very good. (frank)ing annoying reading the same poop day after day from the same people. This is the best team the Leafs have had for years and they’re all young. But the window has closed, cheer for Buffalo then.

Ceci situation is interesting.

He could also accept is QO which would be 1 year 4.3 million. I’m sure he’s talked to teams and knows his value as a UFA.

I mean he’s not Marincin. He’s played 25 mins a game for a tire fire the last few years. The Leafs could see value in him.

If that’s the case they could work out a cheaper deal. The Leafs could say “if you accept that QO we may have to bury you in the minors” which kills his next contract.

So they could say 4.3 subtract 950k that we would save from burying you. That’s the number we feel comfortable playing you at.

So if we trade Zaitsev and Ceci walks, who the frank is actually going to play defence?

I’m assuming Dubas is going to add some.

Just a hunch.

I also doubt he walks. He probably is signing for a about 4 million.

No way in hell he accepts less than his qualifying offer.

The defenceman store is closed for Canada Day weekend.

Everyone thinks the Leafs' biggest problem is cap space.

It isn't.

Our biggest problem is lack of serviceable defencemen.

Who gives a (frank)?

Our forward lineup will be awesome (minus the LW)

Yup. The Leafs being in "Cap Hell" is ridiculous myth. It's hard to find an available RHD is the issue.

I see rumours of defensemen on the market. Not FA.

Trades are a real thing and the Leafs have assets to give.

After nearly 2 full years of the majority of this fan base wanting Zaitsev out of here, we can't now complain about the Leafs trading him and leaving us thin at the back

Cannot imagine this fanbase after watching Cody Ceci play a handful of games.

We'll be pleading for Hunwick

- walshyleafsfan

Ceci will never play for the Leafs. He'll either be traded or Dubas will walk away from his arb. This Zaitsev for Ceci trade is an excellent move by Dubas. He had to eat a warm sandwich with Marleau but he's opening up Cap space. It'll be interesting to see if he can trade for a couple of good defensemen.

So if the Leafs tell him we are burying you because we can’t have you at 4.3 million he says (frank) it?

I’m going to assume you are not much of an investor are you...

Accept less than his qualifying offer? Doesn't seem to make sense for the player

Don't read into my comments so much.

But, yes, as is tatooed across the foreheads of Jays fans from Kelowna to Corner Brook, it is still early.

Very early.

So early that we are talking about a deal that’s not even official because the off-season hasn’t officially started yet.

If he has to take less to play in the NHL he does it.

This is a big contract year for him.
