Even if you structure the money per year as 90% bonus and 10% salary, it drastically cuts down on the amount of taxes they pay.

I have no idea how they structure their tax. I think they can take all of it up front without being taxed initially, and then find shelters and deductibles and other things to offset the tax rate. I suspect that x% (was it 11?) goes into escrow.

I know when *I* get my poopty bonus which contains considerably fewer digits I'm taxed at around 44% on it.

A 2 year, 8M dollar contract would be great for the Leafs.

Not sure why Marner would be interested in that but they, crazier things have happened.
