Two under the radar guys I want the Leafs to sign are Nick Cousins and Reider.

Cousins shold probably come in at 1.25 and Reider 800k.

No one really knows what Marner wants but I think you are probably right...
Marner was already offered 10M x 8 - according to Brian Burke, and that was coming from Marner's agent. He said the dollar amount was fine but the term was too long. If you want less term then you take less money - 9x6??

Maybe he wants exactly to have the same term as his bff Matthews (again who knows) If that's the case though he can't expect the same money.

- GreasyJungle

Its been said several times in the media and I've posted it here, money doesnt seem to be the initial concern......term is.
Then once they figure out term....money will become the problem.

Oh and fack dreger.

Johnsson and Kapanen signed.

Johnsson signed a four-year deal carrying an average annual value of $3.4 million, while Kapanen signed a three-year deal which carries a $3.2 million cap hit per season.

Not bad, Dubas.

Not bad.

- Atomic Wedgie

Those are good numbers. It makes you wonder if something else will be announced soon since these exact numbers were mentioned last week at the draft, which makes you think it was settled back then. What was the hold up on announcing it?

All along Dubas was saying we were waiting for the Marner domino to drop before any other matters are settled.

I know I'm reaching... hoping...

He's trying to beat the game on the highest difficulty setting

Trade for Manson already.

Anehiem obviously wants to trade him.

The Leafs obviously want him.

Anehiem obviously views Nylander highly.

The Leafs are obliviously not on Mansons 12 team no trade.

The cap numbers will obviously fit into both teams plans.

and if the Ducks say no? Keep adding a 7th round pick until the value adds up.

If I recall correctly, the key to NHL 96 was take three guys with skill levels in the 66-75 range, and put them in a package for a guy with a skill rating of 92.

I'm sure going to miss Holl, Gauthier and Christian Hanson, but you gotta be willing to part with guys if you want Doughty on the blueline.

Waiting for certainty.

I am sure Dubas has made some calls to FA's. He has to with the Marner situation.

Any second contract for a dude who is capable of being in the top 6 is now going to be more than $3 million.

That's just a fact, I'm afraid.

As long as the trade value bar adds up its a fair deal

I would miss the Goat though.

He is fun to have around.

I guarantee Dubas made calls on the RFA's comparable to Marner to see what they want.
Infact I would guess that any GM with a stud RFA should have done that.

I read a tweet this morning that the holdup was strictly that they didn't want them on the cap until after moves had been made.

So, at least in theory, more moves are coming very soon.

you are right - Dubas should have offered Matthews a bridge deal ór a full 8y deal @12.5mln.
However, he gave him the most player friendly contract in the league.
Once that was done, normal that Marner wants the same - since he is nearly as good as Matthews.

- MaximusAurelius

C'mon.... I'm sure Dubas had an 8 yr on the table. The 5 yr term was Matthews hill to die on.

And this 'dramatic notion' that it's something unique is totally wrong.

I think MacDavid signing an 8 yr deal is actually unique for the elite guys coming off ELC's.

Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Stamkos, Tavares, Getzalf, Perry ....all signed 5 (Tavares 6) year deals off of their ELC's.

The elite guys have the leverage to demand shorter term. It's always been that way.

They would have to be some super cheap FA's though unless he has a trade up his sleeve.

If Marner signs an offer sheet he has 10 million to do whatever he wants.

When you try to find some solace in the Krapanen and Johnsson deals but then realize you only have 6.9M left for Little Mitch and a defenseman

Mcdavid made a mistake and everyone knows it.

He signed for too long and too little....he is a steal of a contract right now and it is going to be a huge steal in 3-4 years.

Matthews 12.5mln /8y.
Marner 11.16/8y.

you trade Nylander to get an update on D.

the Matthews 11.6mln/5y deal is really really bad by super-GM Dubas.

- MaximusAurelius

An update ? I'll give you an update : Your D sucks !

Truth.

I am firmly in the "there will be no offer sheets camp" however, so I don't see it happening.

I was thinking Brett Connelly or B. Tanev - nothing fancy about them but they are cheap FA's who can play down in the lineup.

I just wish that the Leafs could be as contract-savvy as the Habs.
